- lukasz666Melbourne, Australia81 contributionsI researched this place online, asked questions here and finally got there while in Beijing. Museum is relatively easy to find, get off Xitucheng station (line 2) and walk up the road for about 5-8 min. Enter the main gate to the university (passport essential otherwise forget it) and then walk a couple of hundred meters towards the museum building. English sign is on the door, big sign in Mandarin on the building.
Entry is not so simple though. If you translate their website you will notice that entry to foreigners is only on Saturdays and Tuesdays between 9am and 12pm and online booking is essential. That's fine, but I am yet to find a link to online booking via their website. Maybe Google translate is not good enough but even scanning the page in Mandarin and trying to find a link turned out to be fruitless.
I asked a friend of mine (Chinese) to book for me. Not sure how she did it, but she did it and it was booked for Tuesday. Then she called them to make sure I can get in. Apparently, they do not take booking on passport number, but they gave her a booking reference number and I was just supposed to show that. Easy right?
So I showed up at the ticket office (a hole in the wall) where a very seriously looking woman in some kind of a uniform and no language skills whatsoever shoved a sign in front of my eyes saying "foreigners Sat and Tue, 9am-12pm, booking online only". This was in English. I kept nodding and kept saying that I have booking and showing her the booking reference number. She looked puzzled, looked at me, looked at the number, looked at the computer screen, kept mumbling something. Looked like the booking is not there or she is going to be difficult. After a few minutes of this, she pointed to my passport (had it in my hand, learned at this stage that without ID you cannot enter anything in Beijing). She examined it thoroughly including validity of the visa and finally gave me a ticket to enter.

Once inside, I was the only Westerner. There was heaps of mothers with little kids and older families though, so the place seems to be popular. In a corner there was some kind of a lecture given in English to a bunch of students.
The collection is very cool, consists of gems such as P-61 Black Widow and Chinese used aircraft, Mig-9 and La-11 being highlights for me. Overall, not big, but definitely worth it if you are an aviation buff. Plaques have a short English description, otherwise there is no English in there. Would be good to read about the Chinese space exploration program, from photos it looked like there is plenty of good old communist propaganda there, but my Google translate was not coping well and it was taking too long.
Go and visit, do not give up. Woman in the ticket office just wants to be important, but probably has no authority whatsoever. Just in case, the entire place if full of students and it's a technical university, so you can ask somebody for help. The building is not big, but the exhibits are fun, interactive, and explorable. My 12, 10, 8 and 6 had a great time here. This is one of 2 places in beijing where we spend hours exploring and they didnt complain a word. - Erin PBeijing48 contributionsBeijing Botanical Garden(basic entry 10 rmb, can buy combo ticket of 50 rmb for entry into Conservatory and Wofu Temple). I went on a Wednesday in June and had the place to myself all day.
Take subway line 4to Beigongmen, exit A, both buses 331 and 563 from here for 13 stops to Beijing Zhiwuyuan Namen. This is about a 1/2 hour ride.
This enters the Garden at the southeast gate. If you are walking down the main path to the Conservatory, a great destination not listed on any of their maps or signs is the Butterfly house(10rmb entry fee) on the left side across from the Penjing(bonsai) garden.
I did not like the path going down to no where on the right inside the Conservatory, the sigs are all in Chinese less the Latin names of flowers and it's not well lit. Other than that, I loved the Conservatory. My favorite was the Swiss Family Robinson style bridge and looking out from behind the waterfall. I was amazed at the size of cacti. A few dinosaurs thrown into scenes.
The bathroom in this building was well maintained and supplied toilet paper.

Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Bobbi SLido Beach, NY5,437 contributionsI do not like being so critical in my reviews, but, while this was a "required" part of our two week, 6 city private tour of China, the SO obvious sales pitch makes me think that the tour companies get a kickback and so, the concept loses nearly all sense of credibility. As others have said, we were ushered into a room with a movie screen, two rows of chairs, and were greeted by an onsite assistant, who then had us watch a short film on the flowers and plants used in herbal medicines. In the meantime, two women came in and gave us foot massages, using a cream that promises to help every living system in your body. Then, the assistant introduced us to the silver-haired, white-coated Dr. Chen, who, through a woman interpreter, felt our pulses, looked at out eyes and our lifelines, yada, yada, yada, stating oh, so sincerely how we each have kidney, circulation, you-name-it issues and we would be best served by purchasing all kinds of herbal medicines for which he would GLADLY write prescriptions. We just as sincerely said no, thank you. It was strongly suggested that we should tip the two foot masseuses and so we did, only to find out from OUR (personal) guide that all tips were prepaid. He tried to get back our tips but the staff here refused to return our money. - yuan gMacau, China14 contributionsIt was a very good experience.At the door of the train station ticket office in ticket, ticket window in the train, it was quite interesting.Museum, a total of five layers, for security check before entering, in elevator there were staff remind from top to bottom for the visit.5 to 2 layer respectively different themes, auto development, construction, energy, etc., three layers have a children driving experience area, but must be higher than 1.4m. We learned the traffic signs, visited the various periods of various brands of cars, also in the toy store to pick the right toys, also very happy!Overall feeling was good, the museum exhibits were very beautiful, very suitable for to bring children, the area is not large, 40 minutes to all the tour.
But there were too many children in the museum, it was very noisy.I thought the staff should advise parents to look after their carefully. If children could keep quiet, it must be better than now. If the people who is interested in cars, it was a wonderful place for him. He could see many kinds of cars and the rare old cars.
