- Northern_Traveler00California77,758 contributionsFirst you learn about the different kinds of giraffes. Then you get to feed them! So pretty and calm, and they seem to love the giraffe chow that each visitor is given to feed to them.Written September 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Good to learn and know Karen's contributions and a good tour of the house and historical briefing by the young lady. The vegetation is so lush and green and the waterfall is pretty (although you can see several pipes running next to it). The little river is very pretty too especially the bamboo garden. The caves are cool and one of them actually goes quite far back. The trails are not very well marked so ask the guide at the gate to explain the way to you, depending on which route you want to take. You can spend quite a few hours here or do a one hour loop if you wish. There were lots of people taking photos next to the waterfall and water but you can also walk for ages without seeing anyone. It's 400 Kshs per person (resident rate) to enter. Dogs are also allowed and our dog had a lot of fun splashing about in the water. It's a lovely alternative to Karura which seems to be getting more and more busy. The only thing I would say is that I noticed some trash around closer to the more popular spots so it would be good to either add more bins or be more strict with visitors about littering.Written December 27, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Robert ORotterdam, The Netherlands5,716 contributionsIndeed a wooded landscape as the website mentions. However, there are some open spaces with some benches. The 30 hectare space is crisscrossed by trails and paths, so it is pretty good for a walk. As an arboretum it is perhaps disappointing as the variety of vegetation is limited and markings of different species of trees could be better. Perhaps a result of the original set-up in 1907 as a forestry business entreprise to try out different (imported) species of trees.
I liked the groups of monkeys and there is some birdlife.
Entrance fee 65 KES (no cash is accepted; pay with M-PESA or Visa/Mastercard).
For once, no extra charges for foreigners. All visitors are treated equally!Written December 26, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Connoisseur-of-LifeMississauga, Canada1,360 contributionsOn the Sunday morning of our visit, we were the only visitors to this important but neglected historical tribute to the building of a railway which gave birth to Nyrobi/Nairobi and the colonization of Kenya and beyond. It has been in a time warp since my visit in 2018 and the closed gift shop is presumably a victim of low visitor footfalls and funding. There is lots to fascinate and educate but the paper exhibits are deteriorating. The outdoors cabs and cars are also in a state of slow decay. Only the lost UK industrial penchant for solidity and longevity in matters of iron and steel ensure survival of these artifacts. My wife, not a train enthusiast, found our two hours rewarding and fascinating. Recommended for the train enthusiast and historical buff. BTW, also no cafe and hard to find, at least for Uber drivers.Written August 19, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Amelia NMelbourne, Australia28 contributionsAmazing views of the city, 27 storeys above ground. Certainly puts Nairobi into perspective. Well worth the fee of 500 KSh per person. Be warned, there’s still 4 sets of stairs and a spiral staircase to climb after alighting on the 27th floor. Important consideration for the mobility challenged!Written January 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Beryl Akinyi OchiengNairobi, Kenya33 contributionsMamba is a Swahili word for crocodile. I didn't expect to see a number of crocodiles and learn more facts about them. Who knew the sex of a crocodile was temperature influenced? Definitely not me. But now I do, I learnt that under cold temp and hot temp the hatchlings are female and male respectively. Mamba village is indeed a hub of Crocs.
Apart from the crocodiles it hosts 3 species of tortoises that is the leopard, terrapin( not sure with sp) and the speke's hinge back tortoise.
It also has a great dam scenary, picnic site and is child friendly.
Almost forgot about the ostriches, though there was just one specie, the Maasai ostrich both male and female.Written July 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. With its diverse range of shops, restaurants, and entertainment options, it offers a top-notch shopping and leisure experience. Highly recommended for locals and tourists alike.Written April 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - malaviya2017Dayton, NJ4 contributionsIts an experience to have. But the vendors will nag you to the limit so need some nerves to handle. You can always visit the same market in a mall as well. But prices will be slightly higher.
If you can fight the street vendors then you get good bargains for the local, handmade stuff. Bargain should start with half of what they ask.
Keep in mind that every day of the week the market is on different locations in the city. No cards accepted. Better to carry local currency. They take US dollars as well.Written September 22, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
