We visited Kibera, after being reticent, not wishing to be voyeurs or appear as rich people, which we are not by comparison with our peers. Yes, we are financially rich in comparison, you will find richness of life in Kibera, which does not always follow with financial gain. We were met at The Mall by Benta, who ordered an Uber and took us into the charity's office in the heart of Kibera. We met Jack who explained how this charity is not backed by a major organistion but came into being from a concept by Erick to put 50% of money raised from the tour back into the community. All these individuals are volunteers and still live in Kibera. The tour was very safe, people are pleased to see you, from a distance, no hounding. The children love to greet you politely, with happy smiles and high fives, but without pestering.
There are so many people living in Kibera, a very true intimate place of high values. Differing tourist currency money goes far in the slums. Visiting can make a big difference. Don't miss this chance to be informed. We thank Jack and Benta for an honest, open, informative tour, two great guides. Benta, thank you for inviting us into your home and to meet your lovely daughter. PS Lunch 5*
