I received a message at the airport, I had just arrived after a 9 hour flight, and by the time I was through immigration, transferred to the hotel and settled in, it was after midnight. The message read something like “Hello, please could we start our tour a little earlier at 04:30”, yep that was fine!
Kevin, my driver and guide was to drive me the 205km to Amboseli National Park, for a 1 day Safari, something I have always wanted to do in Kenya, famous for the big 5 (in some parks) and a selection of other amazing wildlife.
The alarm rang, well actually my other half making sure I was up, few. A quick spray of anti-Mossi, anti perspirant and sun run cream then took my anti malarial tablet (just a precaution) and before I knew it, we were off on our adventure.
The drive was interesting, I shall say no more other than Kevin was a brilliant driver, handling the Mombasa highway with such expertise, it was an experience to remember, really good fun eh Kevin 😃.
We arrived at the Amboseli Gateway just after 08:00, after a refreshment break and leg stretch. Before we even reached the park we spotted a Giraffe and Zebra “milling around”.
Al I can say is that my expectations were OVER met time and time again, having heard stories of animals being a bit shy and not showing their face, We saw Giraffe, Elephants, Zebra, Lions , Hippos, Water Buffalo and many others, I lost count of the different species we stumbled across.
Kevin’s knowledge was like an encyclopaedia of nature species and habits, it was fascinating to hear.
We stopped off for lunch at a local lodge which was surrounded by abundant wildlife, the food was of the highest quality and there was something to suit all but the fussiest of tastes.
If I were to say anything it would be book a Safari with Perfect Safaris, you may want a cushion for your rear, it was a long day and the roads are extremely bumpy, it’s amazing value for money, great fun and you will discover animals living in the natural habitat behaving as they should, like the elephant with 5 legs 😜 just completely brilliant, thank-you Kevin for getting me up so early, I am so glad I did.
