What travelers are saying
- 3DMatrixLondon, UK735 contributionsVisiting the Valley of the Kings was nothing short of incredible. We booked our tour with Nile Empire Tours (see my review of the company), and having a guide as knowledgeable as Ibrahim ("Ibby") was a game-changer. His insight and storytelling brought history to life.
There was something surreal about walking through the Valley of the Kings and being surrounded by such tangible pieces of ancient history. The site itself is sizable, with tombs scattered throughout, each holding its own secrets.
The tombs are the obvious stars of the show and upon stepping inside, you’re met with intricate art and architecture that have stood the test of time. The level of detail needs to be seen to be believed. The effort that goes into preserving these treasures is evident.
Each tomb offers something unique and it's easy to lose track of time as you immerse yourself. Entry tickets grant access to most of the tombs, but there are three that require additional tickets. Tutankhamun’s tomb is a must! (unsurprising). The combined ticket for Ramesses I and II is another great choice if time permits. But if you’re willing to splurge, Seti I’s tomb is something else entirely. It’s the most expensive of the three, but it’s also the best-preserved and most intricate.
Comfortable shoes are a must, as is sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water as there's a lot of walking under the sun, with minimal shade. I can’t stress the water part enough; it's ridiculously expensive to buy on-site, as are snacks and other basics. It’s better to stock up before you head out. A nose mask isn’t a bad idea either, as it gets quite dusty.
The Valley of the Kings is clean, well-organised, and a must-visit if you’re in Luxor. It’s a place that leaves a lasting impression, and it’s one of those experiences that’s hard to articulate and one that stays with you.Written January 10, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ColinN2412Glasgow, UK174 contributionsI had the pleasure of visiting Queen Hatshepsut’s Temple, and I must say, it was an awe-inspiring experience. Nestled in the shadow of the cliffs at Deir el-Bahari, the temple seamlessly merges with the natural landscape, creating a surreal and majestic sight.
As I approached the grand entrance, the sheer size and elegance of the structure took my breath away. The terraces rise in perfect symmetry, each level connected by broad ramps that invite you to ascend and explore. The impressive columns and statues of Osiris, standing guard, exude an aura of reverence and grandeur.
The interior of the temple is equally mesmerizing. The vivid reliefs and inscriptions that adorn the walls tell the story of Hatshepsut’s reign, her divine birth, and her ambitious trading expeditions. These intricately carved artworks are a testament to the craftsmanship and artistic prowess of ancient Egypt. I felt a deep connection to history as I walked through the halls, imagining the ceremonies and rituals that once took place there.Written December 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Nefertari was the principal wife of Ramesses II. Notice Nefertari's dark skin. She was a Nubian. The tomb is richly decorated and quite impressive.
I later found out from my tour guide that Nefertari's tomb closed for renovations the day after we visited. We were among the last tourists to be able to visit it.Written May 1, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - lovetoholidayannette11 contributionsWe visited at about 3pm and apart from a small tour group, had the place to ourselves.
Immense columns still with coloured hieroglyphics.
Enormous statue of Ramses (toppled but still impressive)

- Doris PBasel, Switzerland1 contributionI spent 3 wonderful days aboard the Dahabiya Minya some weeks ago, journeying from Aswan to Luxor. It was an absolutely enchanting experience.
The owners, Johanna and Mohamed, welcomed us warmly and made us feel at home right away.
The whole boat as well as my cabin were very tastefully decorated, the bed very comfortable and my private bathroom quite spacious and very well equipped. I also appreciated the large wardrobe inside my cabin.
The buffet style food was excellent and abundant with a lot of different choices. The staff was very welcoming and attentive to our needs and desires, with special mention for Ahmed.
Along the journey we stopped at 4 archeological sites, Kom Ombo temple, Edfu temple, the quarries of Djebel Silsila and Esna temple. Our guide, Salah, very well English spoken, gratified us with very interesting explanations. We also docked at an island and visited a small village. The crew mastered the difficult maneuver brilliantly.
When the dahabiya was gliding on the Nile between two stops, I enjoyed the exquisite feeling of being in a timeless space, outside of everyday life.
And to complete this delightful experience, I was very lucky to have 7 charming travel companions of different nationalities, each one an interesting discussion partner or just enjoying silent moments together.
I can highly recommend a voyage on the Dahabiya Minya, an unforgettable trip.Written January 6, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Gearoid OLondon28 contributionsExcellent morning on hot air baloon.
