We were last here 5 years ago and we still enjoy coming here in the morning. The Namdaemun Market area is definitely bustling. We tried lots of street food including mandu from various stalls, tteok-galbi (grilled minced pork patty), etc. there are shops selling clothes, dried food, jewellery, etc, and is definitely a good place to explore. The are also stalls along the small alleyways that are frequented by the locals. This is a good place to spend a few hours exploring around.

We went here for the Library area mainly but found ourselves spending more time than expected. We had a good breakfast at Eggslut and spent some time walking around the mall looking at stores and other restaurants. There is a Gangnam style statue at the east side of the mall if you want a fun picture opportunity.

The closest metro is Bongeunsa and we spent a couple of hours in the area.

Let’s start with large. Not including the “B” levels, it’s 9 stories of shopping. Escalators are primary means of movement, yet there are elevators. You will wait for an elevator. Shops & sections galore. Not quite like the MegaMall in Bloomington, MN, but pretty nice. All major top brands (and prices). It’s where one wants to be seen (and shop, if money is no object). Enjoy!

Lotte is a household name in Korea. The Myeongdong department store is a remarkable landmark in Seoul. Shopaholics can probably spend days here simply checking out different floors.

We always stop by Majang Meat Market whenever we are in Seoul, sometimes more than once and this time is no different. We arrived later than our usual dinner visits, and went to our usual shop to buy the meat. We bought a fair bit of Korea’s Hanwoo beef, as well as some pork neck and pork belly. The owner of the meat stall remembered us and threw in some prime ribs and gave us a slight discount.

Based on our preference of having a charcoal grill (rather than an electric grill), they brought us to an eatery where we paid KRW6,000 per person to grill our meat. Rice, noodles, soft drinks and alcohol are charged as ordered or consumed. The marbling of the beef from the best grade of Hanwoo beef is beautiful, the grilled beef simply melts in your mouth. We always enjoyed our meals at Majang.

Do ask for trash bags to keep your bags and jackets so that they do not smell after your meal.

Nice underground shopping mall that’s about 1km long. Lots of shops, but most of them sell the same stuff - clothes, accessories, luggage, shoes, purses, socks, blankets, paintings, flowers, and more.
We used to shop at Dongdaemun, but prefer Goto Mall now, at least you can see the prices upfront.
Two food courts, one on each end. Tarot reading booths and massage chairs, too. Get a 10 minute massage for 10,000 won.
Don’t get fooled about the clearance sale, same price the next day we noticed.

Visited Times Square Mall in December 2023 and realised that it is really huge. All the big brand names are there, including luxury brands. Definitely one of the malls that you can spend a couple of hours if you are in a shopping mood. It is a short walk from Yeongdeungpo Station.

Hongdae is interesting as a fun and affordable student ghetto shopping area. The soldiers who are 19-20 year olds mingle with university female students, and young pop street performers are common. You can take line 1 or Seoul station two stops to 4 (Blue) Samgakji station to transfer to orange line 6 Sangsu station. (Exit 1 is at the intersection or cross the street from exits 3-4 escalators there). Three or so more stops (Sangsu) takes you to Hongdae or take bus 7011 Jungju on Dongmak-ro. From there, walk downhill on Wausan-ro. Bus 16 takes you closer to the head at Ol Cafe or the glass family Karaoke building. On foot, pass Gusto Taco and Nike to reach the sign to Hongik Univ. (Right). Another right at the Rooftop Camping jazz signs beside Hongik-ro 2-Gil reveals a busy Z Gen. strip of shoe stores and eats. (On the left side uphill toward the head of the street reveals clothing/apparel bazaar—split between men’s wear on the left and Women’s clothes on the right. Across from green Troubadour is a standup K-pop figure, JK’s Magic Shop (Jungkook). There’s also a Pop Mart across from Heuk Gwa Dang bubble tea and sitting in the Hollys Coffee above street entertainment affords a view up to H&M kitty corner from Footlocker.

Shinsegae is Seoul's answer to Harrods or Macy's. Its Myeongdong store is a de facto landmark in downtown. This is also the place to find international luxury brands. An underground passage connects it with the metro station.

open until midnight.. a supermarket that open until midnight is amazing. maybe because this is located in front of the central station, so there is always people come and go. this is a good place to buy gifts of souvenirs. the price is cheaper than in many tourist attraction. but prepare to have a cash, because person next to me at the cashier got her card rejected.

The exterior looks promising but we were disappointed with the variety of shops within. The building is designed based on a spiraling concept winding around a courtyard, whereby all the shops are arranged on a sloping walkway which brings you from ground floor all the way to the roof. Lots of photo opportunities here.

The market is easy to find. And it has fresh seafood that you buy and tell them to cook them for you at the second floor where all the restaurants located.
