La Candelaria, the old centre of Bogotá is a very colorful place. Warmly recommended to take a Graffiti tour to see a lot of the best murals. In the golden hours before sunset (4-6pm) you can get a beautiful light for your pictures. Hotel de la Opera can be recommended for your stay there, very pleasant, centrally located and safe.

Highly recommend - great stuff and a perfect opportunity to support local graffiti artists. They also have a little juice bar inside

We spotted a wonderful painting in the airport on arriving in Bogotá - and it pointed us to La Cometa. This really is a lovely gallery; and we were fortunate to have Maria take us around and talk to us about some of the pieces in the gallery. If you’re curious about contemporary art, then this should definitely be on your itinerary.

Awesome street art, graffiti and photography works are on display at this little gallery run by local artists. The staff are super passionate about the scene and are on hand to answer and questions you have. A shame we are travelling for so long as we would’ve purchased a few pieces for sure! Also check out their sister clothing store Kontra just down the road.

The Museum was once Ricardo Gomez Campuzano’s home. The house and its art collection were donated by the family to Banco de la República (National Bank) to host a branch of the Public Library. I enjoyed his artwork and the beautiful arquitecture, especially the artist’s studio. The Museum was designed after Gomez Campuzano’s art teacher Joaquin Sorolla in Madrid. Worth a visit!

Located at the campus of the National University, this is a small museum focused on (modern) architecture. The museum is named after the designer of the campus German-Colombian architect Leopold Rother (1894 – 1978), who probably did not anticipate the attraction of white spaces to graffiti artists and political activists.

This museum is not to be underestimated as they often have world class exhibits. When I visited there was an exposition of a work by John Hejduk (USA architect of Czech origin) called 'Victimas'. Few of Hejduk's designs (this one among them) have ever been realized, but this does not mean they are uninteresting. In the vision of Hejduk mankind travels and is constantly mobile. Victimas is about WOII victims. Perhaps he was one himself (born in 1929, died in 2000). It looks very much like the experience of a child transfered to a concentration camp from which there is no escape. The film as well as the maquette show structures like a carousel and a zoo amidst camp barracks, towers and labyrints with dead ends. The whole being encircled by rails with a train that nevers seems to stop. Always a winged angel of death is around. A bit macabre, but the design of structures is fascinating.

    Free admission
Students of achitecture may be around to guide you. Thank you Carolina.
Dutch people there is a Hejduk landmark building in Groningen called Wall House II.

We were fortunate enough to be directed to Gio's studio by another artist in the area, a woodworker named Lorenzo. We were interested in purchasing artwork while abroad and thanks to the truly serendipitous nature of travel, we ended up meeting Gio. He is an extremely passionate artist with world class talent. We adore him and the time spent together. We bought 2 pieces, and ever since then I have spent moments of every day admiring the works. They are my favorite pieces in our home, and I hope to return one day to his studio to purchase a sculpture and another oil :) Muchisimas gracias Gio, eres increible! Su passion es un regalo y su arte es un sueño!
