Teleferico is a great System of cable cars connecting different neighborhoods of La Paz. The system is very modern, efficient and safe. You have great views over the city, so good for exploring the city. For me must when in the city!

Saw the info on Jiwakis website and my first thought was- oh great, a tourist hoax/trap. You bike right next to a deep ten meter ditch- vhoaa- scary… But yet again I was proven wrong and wrong I was, so very wrong. First of all, if you are a travelling family with children- do not read further. Go with the gondolas in La Paz, that will be an adventure for your ten year olds.

Travel up to 4500 masl with a mini-bus, get the necessary instructions, then bike 64 km for 5 hours down to 1200 masl. Thats it. Done. No, not really. First third of your little bike-trip looks like the Swiss alps with perfect asphalt, beautiful mountains on each side as you roll deeper down in to the valley and bike through the low hanging clouds clinging to the mountain sides. Amazing and a little cold. Step in to the minibus for a short 15 minute ride to the next section and that is where the Death Road starts. Let me give you something as a reference; If you by chance go over the edge on the first third of the trip, the Swiss Alp section, you will most probably survive but spend the rest of your living years in a wheelchair. At the second section, Death Road, go over the edge and you will die. Full stop.

Gravel road, rough gravel road, temperature has gone up, it is getting moist, you start to sweat, when you stop by one of the many waterfalls you can hear the sounds of the jungle. At places you pedal merrily along 30 centimeters from the edge of the abyss. Don´t look down too often as you might loose your balance and do what ca 50 bikers have done in the past 20 years: Died. This day requires your full focus, you will be tired afterwards even though it was downhill all the way. Go do it but be smart and if biking is just a childhood memory, go out before and get familiar with it before you do this.
