Beautiful. Took my children here. They bought their toy guns they get at the city center and ran around while we took in all the beauty!

I have wanted to visit Petra ever since I saw it for the first time in an Indiana Jones movie.

    It did not disappoint.

We did the night visit when we arrived; so gorgeous and special.

And then we went back the next day for a more complete tour. Fascinating place. With stunning sights.

Walking through the Siq is amazing, coming out to see Al-Khazneh is beyond description. Go early to avoid the crowds and the hustlers. We were there at 7:00 and got a picture with nobody else in it.

Seems to be open at random times on random days - if the gate's open go in, no sign of staff.
Worth a quick walk round, but not really a lot to see. Some explanatory boards.

The Roman ruins of Jerash are incredibly well-preserved. They are some of the best Roman ruins I have ever seen. There is so much to see and admire, and it is exciting to see that there is a lot that remains to be excavated. Allow yourself around 3 hours to explore the site.

We visited this site, and were so grateful to have had a guide with us to explain the history and the folklore of the area. The grounds were extensive, with many different structures to explore. The views of the surrounding areas were breathtaking as we went late afternoon and watched the sunset. A lovely afternoon adventure.

It is off the beaten path and doesn't take long to walk up to the top (approximately 20 minutes straight without stopping).

Among the "3 desert castles" visited, the "most enjoyable" was this one for its "most indoor space" with two levels and multiple rooms to enter especially on the 2nd level from which there's also a good view of the "inner courtyard" in the middle outdoor part of the Castle, and yes I did a "complete walk" around the Castle on the 2nd level (whereas the other two being Qusayr Amra with just a "cramped interior" & Qasr Al-Azraq with a sizeable interior but which is pretty much just an "empty outdoor" with only the peripheral parts along the walls to enter inside). Also, I would say this castle is the only one among the three with an actual outward appearance of a desert castle for its not-too-big but "sufficient size" and location in a desert (whereas Qusayr Amra being just a small one-storied building & Qasr Al-Azraq with its location not in a desert but in an urban area).

Just about a 1.5-hour drive from Amman, this was the first castle visited followed by Amra (at just another 10-minute drive) & Al-Azraq (about a half-hour drive from Amra), all for about 55 JD to my hotel manager who was the driver (which yes was a pretty good deal for transportation to all 3 castles and back to Amman).

If you pass by Qasr el abd you should see the caves ! Natural caves with tunnels between them offering you an information concerning how some people used to live there!

The Obelisk Tomb is a Nabataean multi story burial complex that was constructed in the first century BC in Petra. It consists of two story tomb carved from the solid rock towered by four obelisks, which is very interesting and should not be missed .

Small but nicely developed site. Did a very good job with the construction so you can see the tile floors. Worth a visit when on the road
