The otherworldly rock formations are amazing to walk through. This is not a short walk though so be prepared. The rock formations are photo worthy.

The Royal Tombs is the name given to the resting place of Nabatean Royalty. The four tombs face the main path of the center of the city of Petra. Some of the tombs are quite grandiose. The tombs are remarkable for the swirls of color in the living rock. The tombs are certainly worth exploring, if only to compare the Nabatean and classical architectural styles.

Personally, I enjoyed visiting As Salt more than Amman downtown. We did a trip from Amman - left at 8am and arrived in As Salt before 9. We had breakfast at Algherbal restaurant, on the main road, close to the museum, up a flight if colourful steps. This is a venue that allows you into the interior of an Ottoman house - a great way to start. We then went up Hammam Street, turned right to go up the famous stairs to Qaqish House, then back down again all the way to the mosque. Then over to the other side, up and to the Hadab restaurant, where you can have a well earned drink. Then down again. The walking was no more than an hour, but it is the most picturesque of places.
From As Salt we went on to Aljouin Castle, then Jerash and we were back in Amman in time for an afternoon stroll across the souqs.
