- Shaun LClanfield, UK2,909 contributionsNice to watch the old tram go up and down Istiklal Street but its really just a tourist attraction. The street swarms with shoppers so its amazing to see the tram move through the crowds.Written May 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jamal JabariLondon, UK14 contributionsYou need to buy a İstanbulkart first which cost 90TL then you need to Top up the card. The card is red in colour. You can then use the 1 card for your whole family but you gotta tap the card each time to allow each person entry through the gate. It will cost you 15 TL per person. So each time you tap, 15TL goes which is quite cheap for the tram. Kids under 10 yrs old goes in free. Having said that you can only top up your card with a maximum of 500TL per month. You can’t keep the same card forever. If you’ve reached the limit of 500TL, then you will have to buy a new Card which is another 90TL and top up again. If you’re travelling solo then 1 card will be enough for you but depending how many times you’re travelling of course. For buses it only cost 9TL each time you tap. Now on the tram there are loads of pickpockets. They work as a group and they’re in and out at different stops, there are men and women working together as pick pockets, if you’re carrying loads of cash on you or wireless debit or crisis cards, you gotta be so alert or they’ll empty your whole bank account and wallet without you even noticing. The trams are so packed out and you’re in each others faces and you won’t realised that they’re opening your bags and nicking your money. Always put your rucksack in front of you and don’t get distracted by people arguing, it can be a deterrent to take your focus on your bag away. Be very careful- sometimes it’s better to pay a bit more by using the yellow taxi that going in the tram at least you know all your money and cards are safe. They’ll Nick your card and then go round on a shopping spree. You’ll have to call your bank to block your cards at an international phone call rate.Written August 26, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
