An amazingly beautiful family tomb. The tiling inside is an amazing and beautiful kaleidoscope of colorful hand painted tiles. It is just behind the mosque and you have to walk down a little avenue by a small cemetery. Well worth a look if in the area.

Amazing historical tomb and well worth a visit if you are in Istanbul, but we found the place a bit spooky. Enjoyed our visit though.

Located inside the Şehzade Mosque, this is the shrine where two sons and one grand-daughter of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent are buried. It has been built for his favorite son, Mehmet, who died at a young age. Later on, his other son Cihangir was also buried here along with the daughter of Mehmet. The shrine has 30 windows which makes the interior very radiant and inner walls are all embellished with unique tiles of İznik. This shrine was under renovation for a long time and it's newly opened. Don't miss the chance to visit it, especially for the beautiful tiles.

Situated above the Bosphorus, this is a peaceful and beautiful place. The tombs are well maintained and frequented by many people. The surrounding cemetery is also well maintained and has great views. There are also many charming cats, as in so many places in Istanbul.

We stopped to visit this burial memorial on our way to the old spice bazaar. The original compound had a school, a fountain, and a library, today only the mausoleum with 26 windows stands with an ornate chandelier.

This is by far the most beautiful cemetery of Istanbul and its uniqueness stems from its location on the shores of Bosphorus. For the locals, it's not just the breathtaking views of the cemetery that makes it so special: those famous writers, poets, artists who are buried here are the other reason that make Asiyan so interesting. In a sense, this cemetery is the "Pere-Lachaise" of Istanbul but unfortunately it's not as organized as Pere-Lachaise: no maps nor signs are available to make the visit easier. But the caretaker of the cemetery who has been working here for more than 30 years is very willing to help and to show you the tombs of famous residents, he also has a lot stories to share. Unlike other cemeteries, Asiyan has sitting areas where you can watch the beauty of the Bosphorus in full silence. Parking can be tricky: the parking slot inside the cemetery has a capacity of 4-5 cars only, so you might be obliged to park your car outside which is a narrow and steep road.

The shrine of Hz. Halid Ebu Eyyub el Ensari is holy to the Muslim pilgrims who visit it. They crowd the space inside the shrine, pray and behave very very decently. Visitors should do the same. Adequate clothing is necessary. The shrine itself is kind of hidden. The room is decorated with the most beautiful tiles. A very interesting experience.

On the Asian side of Istanbul, a bit hidden is this historical cemetery remembering the fallen of the Crimean war but also with graves of various foreign nationals. Interesting to walk around, read inscriptions in various languages and imagine the fates of various deceived.

If you go first to Pierre Lotti instead of taking the cable car you can go down walking and admiring the Eyup cemetery! It’s around 20 min and is relaxing! After, you can go to Eyüp Sultan Mosque!
