The is also a museum which is currently closed due to covid. - Titus DSri Lanka6,957 contributionsIt is a beautiful and a tall tower located beside the pubic Library in a central place in Colombo. Both the War Memorial and the public library are on a due of Victoria ark and can see both in one tour.
The War Memorial is dedicated to Military personnel who died in the world war I and II. Their names are imprinted on the walls of the war memorial.at eye sight level.
The first war memorial was made in the Galle Face but later it was moved to this lace. It was built by Britishers during their ruling time in 1921 to 1923. It was originally located in Victoria Park, now called Viharamahadevi Park, but was relocated from near the Presidential Palace in 2006 to an inauspicious location near the National Museum. It remained there until 2013 when it was decided that it should be renovated in time for the CHOGM gathering in 2013. This one has the advantage of not being covered. It is opposite the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall. It is 50 years old in 2020. He in his life work hard to the upliftment of the electorate and this statue is a tribute to him. He represented Communist Party, where he later become the General Secretary. He was with the ordinary people and champion of workers right. In real life he had walked passed, where the statue stand, with many party workers for the right of the workers. Highly educated from attending schools and universities in both Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom, he became the first native born to gain the degree of Doctor of Science from the University of London.
