Everything was well organized and ran smoothly.
Ashee arranged for us to be collected from our cruise ship and driven to the market to meet Nim.
We wandered through the market and Nim introduced us to lots of new vegetables and fruits and spices. We got to try lots of things at the market and could decide what we wanted to cook that morning for our lunch.
The people at the market were warm and friendly, and Nim shared his knowledge at every step.

Next we took a TukTuk ride to Nims place. Away from the business of the city, with monkeys swinging in the trees, mongoos and other animals wandering around in the gorgeous surroundings outside his place.

Then it was time to get to work. Nim gave us step by step instructions and what and why we were doing things.
We cooked a jackfruit curry, an amazing fish curry, we made coconut sambal and coconut roti. All delicious!!! And washed down with a Sri Lankan beer.

When it was time to get back to our ship, Nim had a car waiting to take us back on time for sailing.

Really a wonderful day that gave us not just a taste of Sri Lankan food, but also the culture and the kindness.

Hi, I had an amazing time with Piumi at her place.
She instructed me on how to cook authentic Sri Lankan food, she let me cook and followed step by step. We made a 6-meal course over 3 hrs but honestly I think we did even more! Such an interesting cruising, a mix of flavours and spices combined. Atmosphere was very friendly and genuine. Her parents (and dog!) were very interested too, so I guess I did everything properly!!

Try and enjoy your own creations, dive into the Sri Lankan cuisine.

This cooking class with the rustic tour guide was my birthday gift from my husband as he knows that I love different cooking experiences. It was one amazing experience with fun and knowledge. We visited Colombo’s biggest vegetable market as the first part of our tour to pick our own veggies. And that is the biggest market ever I have visited. Chef, Nim was a cool character with a great sense of humour and he did a great job in giving us the best experience. We cooked 3 curries with rice which turned out to be the most delicious local food we tasted. Nim, gave us some simple tips and techniques that we can follow when making Sri Lankan food at home. I would say this is the best birthday gift I got in years.

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed this class. Getting to pick the ingredients at the market was an added bonus. Very nice family, very fun event. We would definitely recommend doing this for dinner one night in Colombo.

Aunty Mo provided a diverse and thoughtful crash course on Sri Lankan cooking. Having visited Sri Lanka several times, this course provided terrific insight to the local cuisine. I was impressed by the diverse range of dishes from a similar baseline of ingredients, and each dish produced offered a complex, flavourful outcome. Aunty Mo is warm, passionate about local cuisine, and grateful she opened up her home and heart for this course.
