- ZimminaroundtheworldOkinawa Prefecture, Japan1,982 contributionsThe Chinggis Khan Statue Complex is well worth a day trip from Ulaanbaatar. This is the biggest equestrian statue in the world. From a distance it is impressive, I recommend going inside, walk to the top of the statue, and visit the museum. I learned a lot here.Written October 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Remus C. H. A.Singapore, Singapore687 contributionsKind of off roads trip. It was raining in mid June and the soils were slippery. Main focus is the to see the land of the wild horse. There are two main trails. Shorter trail about 36km. Longer trail 80km long. Animals such as Przewalski’s horse, marmot, deer and Ancient tombs and big rocks stone.Written June 20, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BlakeChicago, IL161 contributionsSukhbaatar Square, located in the heart of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the city. The square is spacious, clean, and offers a sense of openness amidst the urban environment. It’s steeped in history and is surrounded by iconic landmarks such as the Parliament House, the State Opera and Ballet Theatre, and the National Museum of Mongolia.
The square features a central statue of Damdin Sukhbaatar, a revolutionary hero, making it an excellent spot for history enthusiasts. Additionally, the nearby restaurants, cafes, and shops provide plenty of options for dining and entertainment, ensuring there’s always something to do in the area.
Sukhbaatar Square also serves as a cultural hub, often hosting festivals, concerts, and public events, making it a lively place to visit. Whether you’re interested in history, architecture, or just people-watching, the square offers a vibrant experience that encapsulates the spirit of Ulaanbaatar.Written December 9, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Consider moving here. The sandstorms keep the bandits out and the skeletal remains of camels make for great playhouses for the kids!
The local population of 3 entire humans is very friendly and very welcoming.
Plenty to do as well, like sand sledding/skiing and deciding who gets the food and water rations is quite challenging, yet fun to partake in.
No better place to live, but we don't want EVERYONE to move here. Too many people as it is.Written October 16, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - kseye8181Petaling Jaya, Malaysia1 contributionComing from the Tropics, be prepared for a very brutal cold weather during winter, from 30c to
- 26c is not a joke, although the scenery will take your breath away. Since flight from UB to Murun was only operational in March, I took a 700km bus ride to get a kick out of it... what more to say but to marvel the winteric scenery.. My destination is a 150 km from the south shore at Khatgal to the North Khuvsgul Tourist camp across the lake at Khankh. Awesome sight of the frozen lake a short hike on the ridge . The only restaurant is 3 or 4 km away at a Soum center nearby..and the road to the Russian border.. Be prepared to experience a different dimension of Winter Lake Khuvsgul.Written February 26, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It flows for more than 10 kilometers to the west and is called the Hongor river.
On a windless and sunny day, the sand of Khongor is really beautiful. When traveling through the sand dunes, start at the nearest hill, and it is easiest to follow the crest of the hill from one hill to the other. Because of the loose sand, it is impossible to climb steeply, and the legs get tired easilyWritten March 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kai WahMalaysia3,814 contributionsThis national park is a must for nature lovers when traveling to Mongolia. We did a road trip from Ulaanbaatar which was a long journey with bumpy road. But the scenery and countless sights of animals such as camels, horses, goats, cattle, etc along the journey makes the whole trip well-worth it. The national park covers these areas with different beauty of natures:
1) Yol Valley - where is good for 1-3 hours of hiking to enjoy the natural gorge with some wild animals sighted, such as yaks, wild rabbits, ibex, eagles, etc
2) Khongor Els - where is the 2nd largest sand dunes in the world. Climbing the sand dunes and sitting on top of the sand dune to watch the sunset is one of the most unforgettable experiences we have during our trip.
3) Baganzag - where is also called the Flaming Cliffs as the Cliffs look like they are on fire especially during sunset. Fossils of dinosaurs were found here at this site.
Minimum of 3 days to stay at this national park to complete the above-stated 3 main highlights in this region. The best way to appreciate these nature is to hire local tour guide and driver for the hassle-free experience where you can completely immerse into the wonder of natures!!!Written November 26, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is very beautiful rock formation and it took us at least 6 hours or more from Ulaanbaatar to reach here. The road to this sight can be very bumpy, but many amazing views along the journey where cattle, horses, camel, etc can be seen along the road trip. An amazing nature in Mongolia!Written November 26, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- TravelAngler725Seoul, South Korea333 contributionsAnother highlight of my week long Gobi desert tour, this was an area that frankly reminded me a lot of the American Southwest. I lived in Nevada for a year shortly before going abroad and Khermen Tsav reminded me so much of Red Rock Canyon, except in complete natural peace and not defaced by graffiti. The incredible sandstone hills march in indefinitely. They never seem to end!Written August 17, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lucy MJakarta48 contributionsTravel On tour company was fabulous in arranging my visit. The hotel was not yet open for the season and because it was a day trip we visited from 10am to 1pm but we had a great picnic, saw many birds and above all enjoyed the quiet. No other tourists so it was heaven.Written May 18, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
