- streetMartin237 contributionsYou don't need to know anything about traditional medicine to appreciate the rare collections of pictures and artefacts stored in this old town house as an impromptu private museum. Yes, it is owed by a herb company but they are very cool and unobtrusive about it, a real must when in HCMC, loved it !Written December 31, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Chris SEglinton, UK602 contributionsThis is in a rather run down building as is the museum itself. There are some interesting aspects but I would not put this one high on my list of things to do in Ho Chi Minh city.Written February 1, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dany WGuildford, England, United Kingdom33 contributionsI had read just a couple of reviews about this Ao Dai museum located about 23 kms outside Saigon in Long Phuoc District 9. It truly is worth a visit and can be reached by local means using the No. 88 bus departing from Ben Thanh Bus Station (NOT Ben Thanh Market). Actually we went to the market instead of the bus station (they are near but not that near) & nearly gave up but happened to see a No 88 & waved it down & it stopped (well, slowed down) & we hopped on. For 6,000 VND we travelled 23 kms on a journey of 1.1/2 hours through not very exciting districts until crossing the last bridge to reach lush countryside. The Museum really is lovely and very peaceful. We had called earlier to ask for an English-speaking guide. The tour, at a gentle pace, lasted just over an hour, then we wandered on our own, enjoying the lake and gardens. Miss France arrived for a photoshoot so the venue wasn't as unknown as it first seemed. The "stop" for the No. 88 is on the "main" road about 300 metres from the Museum which is located up a small dirt road. Buses are frequent around every 12 mins. Enjoy!Written October 1, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- kk62Dublin, Ireland145 contributionsThis is a very interesting museum from a number of perspectives. The various floors hold differing themes. The history and evolution of the native dress is immensely interesting. Once again, the floor dealing with the conflict is incredibly touching and deeply saddening.Written February 28, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - utkan ulucayIstanbul, Turkey518 contributionsIn the pedestrian street, not the museum but the exhibition. I have seen a real podium first time in my life. It was exciting. Numbered chairs, live music, decorative walls, costumes around... I was alone in the hall and could not stop myself pretending as if I am the fashion model!Written August 11, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - D0rHaHong Kong, China105 contributionsThe museum is in a surprisingly nice garden and the whole exhibition is surprisingly good. Lot of info about the 19th and 20th century's France-Vietnam relations, colonial prisons, old photos of Saigon and Vietnamese countryside, etc.
The museum has a very good restaurant, with Minestrone, beef Wellington and croque Madame on the menu. I don't know if they really have all these food but the passion fruit juice and the orange-carrott juice were very good.
Small but important detail, especially for women: the restaurant's toilet is very good, much better than the museum's - has toilet paper, soap, water. If you need to use the restroom, go to the restaurant.
Restaurant has AC and good WiFi.Written December 30, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
