We took the BTS skytrain from Saphan Taksin to Sala Daeng in the direction of National Stadium (bought single tickets at the counter in the station) . We walked the rest of the way, passing through Patpong Market which was just an empty-ish street at 10am, so no shocks for our children.
Adult tickets were 200 THB and students (19 and 17 years) 100 THB and our 12 year old 50 THB. The entrance was very easy to find.
You pass a cafe which we didn’t use but feel we could have, and a drinks shop with cans of recognisable brands for 50 THB.
There is an outdoor area with snakes in habitats and just enough information. This is also where snake handling takes place in the afternoon (about 2pm).
Directly behind this area is a modern building with more (even better) snake displays. Read the key as you go in so you know what the symbols mean on the cages. This is also where the 11am snake venom extraction takes place - there is a small auditorium and an enclosed room where 3 snakes were milked the day we visited.
Oh take masks as everyone was wearing them in this building.
Our teens loved this - it was definitely worth going out of our way for.
We continued on to the Flower Market via the Blue Line metro from Sam Yan to Sanam Chai.
