- Patti Durden12 contributionsWe had a private showing of Top Gun because nobody else was in the theatre. If you want full blown luxury, choose the enigma cinema. You can order food and drinks before movie in a beautiful lounge. Once you are seated (laying down on your bed!), they will bring you popcorn and drink with just the push of a button!Written June 11, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Jeep556 contributionsLocated in the crowded Siam square, this 50 years old legendary building is the last survivor of stand alone movie theatre in Bangkok. When I first encountered this vintage theatre, I was stunned by its gorgeous architecture and elegant decoration which is a perfect combination between east and west , a well mixed of classic and modern. An open-air lobby welcomed me with a spectacular 5 tiered Italian chandelier consisted of many glass spheres. As I climbed the staircase to the second floor of the lobby to buy a ticket, I noticed many magnificent arch pillars that support the ceiling. Between these pillars (on the ceiling) embellished lightbulbs centered at golden 24-pointed star ornaments. On the wall above an entrance to the theatre hall, settled some bas-relief sculptures representing many asia nations performing arts. Such a charming place ! I was completely love this theatre at the first sight.
Ticket system at this theatre is also "traditional". Only a pencil and paper (which shows availability of seats) are needed. You choose your seat, staffs crosses it out, then you will get a (very cool) retro paper ticket and all that is (no computer involved).
The best seat costs only 160 baht (while normal seat and medium seat cost 120 and 140 baht) which is still cheaper than the cheapest seat in other theatre !
Staffs were nice and polite. Most of them have been worked here for many decades. Staffs at the entrance wear yellow jackets (trademark uniform ?). I was told that seats were used to be 100% occupied at its prime (about 40 years ago). However, only about 20 seats were occupied in that day (pity for Thais that do not see the value of this theatre). I bought some snacks and a bottle of water before walked into the hall. After a yellow jacket guy torched the way to my seat, I found myself in the vast auditorium comprised of approximately a thousand seats (876 seats, to be precise) with an enormous screen. Advertising times and movie trailers here are short comparing to the other theatres. I sat on a comfortable seat all 2 hrs, overwhelmed with ecstasy. This was an ultimate movie theatre feeling I've ever experienced ! Honestly, the atmosphere of the theatre is more interesting than the movie. This grand theatre is frozen in time. I felt like I was back to the time when my dad was a young lad. Moreover, the theatre occasionally brought back some great classic movies to rerun in special Sundays. In my opinion, this extraordinary theatre deserves more than 5 stars rating.
After the movie, I enjoyed a wonderful meal at Scala restaurant (authentic chinese cuisine, operated along the theatre for more than 30 years) on the first floor of the lobby. The restaurant has the same name as the theatre, all waiters also wear the same yellow suits as theatre's staffs, and its decoration resembles the theatre (western culture styles such as bas-relief sculptures about Aztec gods, arch, Doric order, beautiful statues of ancient European ladies). Foods, especially "Peking duck" and "sliced stewed pig ear", were fantastically delicious.
Thank you Scala (both theatre and restaurant) for sharing a precious moment with me.
Attended "The call of the wild" on 4 March 2020.
PS. Very bad news is Scala theatre (and the restaurant) is permanently closed due to covid crisis. Legend becomes memory. Sooo...oo sad. - Douglas HLondon, UK2 contributionsNice building, decor, ambience and relaxing music. Very good is you are given a form before your massage indicating the strength required and any areas to focus on or avoid (aromatherapy), haven't seen this before. Having picked hard, the massage was indeed strong and no need to ask masseuse for more power. Foot massage seats are electric and v comfortable, if you are watching a film its a good quality screen and audio, only issue is 60 mins is not long enough to watch a full film so if you want to watch a full film pick 90-120 mins. You get a feedback form at the end with tea/water/brownie snacks, no pressure to tip although we always do. Very professional. It's slightly out of the way if you are walking so would probably recommend a grab taxi to get there, the road leading up to the location doesn't have a pavement.Written November 21, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- JandNMcHong Kong, China605 contributionsGreat way to see a movie. Far better than your average gold class cinema. Nibbles and drinks before and a day bed to lie on in the cinema. Very for Thailand but an excellent way to experience a new release.Written January 16, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Punyavee NapalaiBangkok, Thailand1,032 contributionsWe liked this cinema as it provided high quality of service. - 429HappyChichester, UK3,348 contributionsThis multiplex cinema is situated within a wonderful mix of shops, supermarkets and a vast array of food outlets. I was impressed with the sound and picture quality and the seats were extremely comfortable. The interior decor resembles those English Theatres of the 60s. Well worth a visit combining with shopping and eating.Written November 6, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- M. LachmRotterdam, The Netherlands20 contributionsReally nice looking cinema for a good price. Love the food/popcorn/drink-options. Just don't go for the 4D seats and maybe, if possible, watch the movie in the special "first class" viewings (bit more expensive but worth it!)Written May 21, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- TM HlaingNaypyidaw, Myanmar175 contributionsI have been there several times. My last visit was in June this year. Food shops outside changed a lot. I used to grab some foods I liked outside and combined with foods at the food court to kill time.Written November 25, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

Small theater that is very well air-conditioned (so much so you might want to borrow one of their blankets), comfortable seats, great snack bar (craft beers! Yom tum popcorn!), interesting selection of Thai and other lesser known/art films (English subtitles), 3-4 individual screenings daily. Short walking distance from Lumpini Metro stop. Our 4 tix cost $US 12, which we purchased in advance on PayPal. Clean bathroom. Be sure to check out the art gallery next door and the UNICEF mural on social bullying just outside the entrance (theater is on 2nd floor, enter via alley).Written October 26, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Steven NLaunceston, Australia177 contributionsWent to watch Angel Has Fallen which was advertised as playing on ScreenX. However, the entire movie ran only on the front screen. Waste of money paying extra for the ScreenX cinema.
The cinema itself is very clean, cool aircon, and the seating is definitely comfortable. Good for movie watching if attending the regular or IMAX screens.Written January 25, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - jobst56Hamburg, Germany1,707 contributionsIn 2019 house cinema moved to the new shopping complex SAMYAN MITRTOWN - MRT Sam Yan, pretty central.
