This stupa is quite the presence, and is worth visiting for is grandeur. I’d recommend going to a nearby restaurant to a higher floor level to get what I think are better views of the stupa itself.

The temple has monkeys running about, hence the nickname “Monkey Temple”. But the shrines and other structures there were spectacular in appearance. Places like this, preserves Nepal’s rich history. And it really makes it irresistible for us tourists to see it up close and personal.

Perhaps most importantly though, we had a spectacular view of the city of Kathmandu below. It was an amazing vantage point to get such a great view of the city.

While only Hindus can enter the actual temple, being able to witness from a distance the cremation ceremonies, was quite an experience. I’ve never seen anything like this before, and it really contributes to the aspects of the culture that make it distinctive and unique. Especially to us westerners. Definitely worth the visit for sure.

This is a historical, cultural and religious complex in Kathmandu consisting of temples, shrines and monuments that are key part of Nepalese identity. The site is old dating as far back as the 13th century. Many buildings are very interesting and historical. One of them is the palace of the current living Kumari Goddess. We happen to see her at 4:30 from her balcony “audience” inside her garden.
The square is very busy, a bit dirty and often times chaotic. Tickets for foreigners are 1000 NR for the day. You probably will need a guide since there is no signage or sparse literature to explain the sites. Personally, I found the Durbar Squares at Patan and Bhaktapur to be more interesting and pleasanter to visit. But this one should be visited nevertheless.

While a little pricey for fioreigners, there is a discount for seniors and students (with ID). The cable car ride is wonderful and beautiful. We ascended through the clouds to the very top. On a clear day (from the top) you can see Mt Everest. Also, foreigners get a special entrance to move up to the front of the Queue for the Cable Car ride. There are 8 people in each cable car and it takes about 15 minutes to go up to the top.

At the top, there is a nice snack bar, restaurant, Hindu temple, zippiness, children's play area, and bicycle riding on a tight-rope (all are safe).

Once the clouds clear, the beauty of the Kathmandu valley below is wonderful. The restaurant provides about 8 options of true Nepali food. There is an ATM at the top to pay cash at the various areas.

    Well worth the trip.

A very energetic place that's a very popular spot for both tourists and devotees, especially the latter. The devotees love to perform pooja/darshan here as well as stuff things into the mouth of Hanuman.

Per my driver, the god lying down is Vishnu. His statue is surrounded by water. Locals were noted offering their prayers and flowers to Vishnu.

There are several bells that locals ring for good luck as they pass by. Also noted are lighted candles. Took some pictures before leaving. No entrance fee at this attraction.

    Shopping heaven for locals.
They are the wholesalers for the items sold in Thamel.
Some designs of T-shirts in Thamel are not available here.
Be sure to bargain for a discount.

Surronding is beautiful and its a good hiking place however the monastry itself was closed for public hence i couldnt enter.
I wanted to also share that the road lays next to the complex gets abonded for few meters, unfortunately I got insulted by a person who was riding a motor bike on the narrow road. I keep travelling to nepal weekly bases and never something like this happened to me before, its a safe place in general . just be careful if ladies walking alone there as it gets deserted at one point and there was noone around on top the hill

This 144 feet tall statue is the tallest Shiva in the world. Built of cement, copper and zinc, this statue has a very beautiful smiling face of Lord Shiva. It is in Bharkatpur in Nepal. About 2 hr drive from Kathmandu.
A nominal entrance fee is levied. The entire location is calm , beautiful and well maintained. A shop selling snacks and artifacts is in place near the statue.
A must - see in Nepal.

this statue looked very powerful and a bit scary in some ways and the religious significance made this statue even more amazing. it was really cool to see the locals worshipping the statue.

Why is this place added twice here? Please fix. And also some locations are hard to find in this. Even with exact spelling from Google maps or such.
