We enjoyed sampling the best of Kathmandu 's cuisine on this walking tour. We were able to taste local favorites - from lassi to sell roti and many others!

I attended a brilliant Nepalese cooking lesson where I was able to cook Nepalese pizza, momos, daal, and carrot pudding. The experience was incredible! The chef was amazing at cooking, as well as friendly and entertaining throughout the session.

Exploring Nepali culture with their foods was an amazing experience. The presence of hands-on cooking class gave me the opportunity to produce food from a raw state, from buying choice ingredients, to being able to learn recipes that are quite challenging like momos. Three Nepali menus, each consisting of four items, were presented in the class and I got to choose my favourite ones!

In a nut shell, it was a wonderful and enlightening experience, I would definitely recommend for any one, with an interest in Nepalese food and traditions.

I took a 3 hour cooking class with 2 other people. We could choose 3 meals we wanted to prepare (Dal Bhat, Momos and Yomari).
We got the ingredients from a small store across the street (this was advertised as "going to a local market" but didn't really add anything to the course) and started cooking.
Our cook explained everything very well and patiently and I am confident to be able to cook these recipes at home. At the end we could buy a recipe book for 400 rupies (not included in the course fee) which I did, the book is very good.
All the food we cooked was delicious and we were absolutely stuffed at the end of the course.

If you like cooking: Can wholeheartedly recommend!

My friends and I joined the cooking class on 9.6.2024 and it marked a good ending for our first trip of Nepal. Kalpana and her son are cheerful and warmly treated us just like part of their family and we really enjoy to cook in such a beautiful house with gorgeous garden.

In this class, we were able to cook with fresh ingredients which are truely from farm to table and got a chance to know more about the food culture of Nepal.

The food is very delious and we spend a happy time to talk, to cook with Kalpana family. High recommend to join the class!

The food in the back alleys were amazing! Cleanliness was good. Recommend bringing wet wipes or hand sanitizer though, as foods can be sticky.

Deepak was a good guide. Very friendly, helpful and caring. He knows the city well and is able to find the best solutions even if you have not time enough to stay there longer. Recommend! :)

Cooking Class in Thamel Kathmandu by Local Chef with pickup is good place to be.
I love to cook but I don't know how to start, the class organized by Cooking Class in Thamel Kathmandu by Local Chef with pickup was like an eye opener for me to a new ground of possibility.

As a straight man and lifelong ally, I embraced Queemandu’s motto that “straight roads are boring” and decided to take the plunge. Forget about plain white momos - this experience was epic! Cheers to Prajeet for being such a great guide.

I booked this tour on my first full day in Kathmandu so that I’d see a few of the main sites and have some local experiences to get my bearings. Little did I know we would do so much! The ‘2 sites’ is actually not all-encompassing, in addition to the unesco sites, we saw a local market, the national palace museum, and the living goddess. So much! RJ was fantastic with the pre-tour organization, including day-before confirmation and preparing my tour guide with my Gmail photo to find me. Kabita my guide was on time, well-spoken, flexible with my photo requests, and full of information! I learned so much and had fun doing it. Heads up for the food tour though - it’s a LOT of food. I felt badly about wasting as I couldn’t eat it all with just me! But everything was delicious to try and I would never had found these places in my own.

5* tour, highly recommend, and looking to see when in my schedule I can book another with Kabita and Yakthung! Great experience and first day in Kathmandu.

Our family took a UNESCO heritage tour of Kathmandu, and we were concerned that there would be overlap with the rickshaw tour. We were absolutely delighted that there was no overlap at all. Our guide, Yogi, was a rockstar! He was knowledgeable, flexible, and gave us a fantastic experience. We even went to dinner together afterwards we, enjoyed his company that much. Yogi happens to be gluten-sensitive like two of our family members, and that was a tremendous benefit in terms of generally helping us in making our food selections. Yogi would be a great choice for this really interesting tour, and he would also be a great choice as a freelancer if you are visiting. Be aware that there is almost no interaction with the rickshaw drivers as they do not speak English. They also expect a small tip at the end which was fine. They worked very hard.

We tried Momo for the first time in Kathmandu and we absolutely loved it. Our friend recommended us about this tour. We were picked at our hotel by our guide and he took us to a local house where a couple were there. We started making a flour dough, mixed chicken minced meat with cabbage, onion, spring onion, different spices etc. Then we made 5 different momos shapes. They were so good at teaching that we learned cooking momo very quickly. After we steamed the momos we sat outside in the balcony which was very peaceful. The momo was so delicious that we ate a lot. We are taking this knowledge as a souvenir back home, Invite our friends and treat them with the momo we nake back home.

Cooking with a local family was a very nice experience at the end of our trip through Nepal.
We started by going to the local market to buy fresh vegetables. These were then prepared with us and the family, resulting in a very tasty dal bhat. It was a very nice evening.

    Katmandu cooking academy
    With Chef Vikram and Kamal.
It was such a professional environment.
When I arrived, I was served milk tea and was asked to choose three dishes to cook.
I chose Thukpa, dal Bhat and yomari.
We prepped the ingredients. Started the pressure cooker with rice and dal.
Started the dough for the dessert. Prepared the base for the thukpa noodle soup and cooked the noodles.
Then we Began cooking the curry and I learned about all the spices that are typically used.
I loved learning and preparing Dal Bhat especially understanding the significance here in Nepal. I enjoyed the yomari too and I will try to cook everything, once i return home.
Thank you showing me that i can cook your wonderful dishes of Nepal.
