We visited this museum on June 8. There is free parking at the entrance. You have the option to visit the museum or the museum in combination with a guided tour in the house where Eisenhower spent his childhood. We chose to only visit the museum. You can buy tickets at the visitor center. It is also there that an introductory film is shown. The museum has two main parts: His life until the end of World War 2 and his presidential period.

I wasn't sure if this would be worth the price of admission, but it far exceeded my expectations. The docent was wonderful and told us lots of interesting stories about the house and it's occupants.

We had limited time to get to Abilene during a recent trip to the Kansas City and booked an afternoon train ride months in advance for our one available time.

While there was unfortunately a switch/safety isssue almost immediately into our ride, I am still so happy we went. Seeing the steam engine in person and climbing up into the top seats in the caboose for our brief ride was just cool. Many people get their tickets for the excursions stamped in honor of train history (a tip for your trip).

The staff could not have been more apologetic, safety focused or kind. Everyone was wonderful to visit with and very careful when the diesel engine had to pull the passengers back to the depot so the impacted cars could be more directly addressed.

Watch for the adorable service dog dressed in a train engineer's costume on the caboose.

Oh, and FYI, if you do buy caboose tickets, that ride is only one way because whatever engine you are riding in will be hooked to the caboose on the way back from your stop.

We stopped in over the weekend. Were greeted at the door by two of the sweetest grayhounds. It was an interesting history lesson on grayhounds and grayhound racing. If in the area stop by.
It is across the street from the Eisenhower Presidental Library.

What a nice surprise in Abilene. The museum has lots of interesting info, I enjoyed the history of the telephone. The carousel was beautiful.

My wife and I travel the US in our RV. We like to support local theater and have gone to dozens. We were in Abilene to visit the Eisenhower Museum (which is beyond great) and went to see Hello Dolly. To say we were surprised and pleased would be an understatement. The play was so terrific the entire audience stood and applauded for minutes. We simply did not expect the quality of the cast. The lead was an experienced and professional woman from NY, but the rest of the cast were fine arts - music and theater students. The voices, the facial expressions, the dance were (again) beyond expectations. If you are in Abilene or close by be sure to look up the Great Plains Theater in Abilene and go see them.

In our quest to check off notable Roadside Attractions, we decided to take in the world's largest belt buckle in Abilene. It was easy to find on the fairgrounds and worth the stop. The buckle actually has stairs which allow you to pose at the top of the belt buckle. It is near a beautiful city park which in the summer had gorgeous gardens and many additional photo opportunities. It would be a nice place to stop for a rest along your road trip. The park is very close to the Eisenhower Museum & Library complex.

Love this place and it's always on my agenda to stop here. It didn't have as good of discounts in the discount area as usual. This is where they sell like Christmas and other holiday candy out of season or like the bloopers. I still bought items and will stop again.

I visited in the early sunrise hours as part of a run-cation and cross-country trip. Not knowing what to expect as I ran along the roads of Abilene (2 miles south of I-70), I stumbled upon this little gem! It is the perfect little preservation of Old West history. Over a dozen buildings (rail station, hotel, shops, small buildings, a cemetery, etc) from the mid-19th century adorn the old Abilene town area. There are info placards that explain the history, as well as relevance of this location. Theres's also a staffed information center and gift shop.
A definite stop on a cross-county journey if you want to stretch the legs.
