- Jeff KPittsburgh, PA2,480 contributionsWe stopped here for about 30 minutes and we were glad we stopped. The Temple was interesting but didn’t blow me away. The views and grounds are very good, though. The highlight for me was the brief discussion with the Temple’s tour guide. She did a great job of explaining the Bahai religion which was very informative.

It gave good insight into the local area and the guide was informative. The price is reasonable and learning this story will give you a deeper appreciation for this culture.Written November 4, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Robert ORotterdam, The Netherlands6,742 contributionsCompleted in 1925 on a hilltop 3 km west of Kampala center, the cathedral is the seat of the Roman Catholic archbishop. The architecture looks very similar to that of churches in France (neogothic towers on both sides of a large nave). Note a side altar dedicated to the Ugandan martyrs killed in 1885 - 1887 because they refused to denounce their faith.
Catholics still are the largest group of believers in Uganda, just under 40% of the population.
The church welcomes visitors. Though I was asked for a donation, it was not insisted upon. Unlike businesslike entrance fees at Gaddafi mosque (25,000 UGX) and the Anglican cathedral (10,000 UGX). Remarkable considering the Protestant branch of the Christian church (among them Anglicans) emerged in opposition to turning the church into a business mid 1500s.Written January 19, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I wasn't able to go into the adjacent park as it was cordoned off. There were lots of armed police and military men around the entire areaWritten January 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Shirin BKampala, Uganda153 contributionsNamirembe cathedral is a must on a day trip in Kampala city. The cathedral is on the Namirembe hill. Walking up to the cathedral, you would be able to enjoy the city laid out on the side of the hill. There are millions of beautiful birds giving you the company. Sundays are busy and noisy. For foreign nationals, there is a guided tour available with UGX 10000. The tour takes you through the cathedral's history. But what is more worth is the visit to the cathedral. The structure is made of old Mahogany wood and is quite grand. I especially liked the Berlin Wall remnant. Keep at least 45 minutes for the visit. I was not impressed with the souvenirs on display as most items were too religious in nature.Written October 21, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Robert ORotterdam, The Netherlands6,742 contributionsI understood that the present Old Taxi Park has been upgraded during the corona crisis. Most people in the city are enthusiastic about the improvements. For me, as a newcomer to Kampala it is a sea of minibuses going anywhere in and around the cty or even the country. To find the right minibus is an ordeal. I guess it is a matter of getting used to, but would Kampala not be better of with a modern busterminal?
Another major concern are the exhaust fumes of the vehicles (often black toxic smoke). This is a real public health concern as these fumes cause cancer.Written January 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
