This is perfectly normal in terms of wanting to see if you require excursions, day trips etc and I personally feel its important to get out of the hotel and sightseee.

Taste this! Smell this! Regular stops in the 4x4 to view wildlife spotted beside the road, regular stops at markets, numerous boat trips along the river and through the mangroves, trips into local schools and houses.

On of the best experiences I've had during my trip to The Gambia were with Falutours; the knowledge, stories, love and respect for the country and the people that these boys have are amazing!
... that was organised by these guys which included a 2 night stay at Bintang Bolong Lodge which is situated on the river, it is so tranquil and peaceful and I was able to do a boat trip for some great birdwatching.
We had an incredible day exploring the real Gambia, visiting some villages and a school, which was really humbling.
