A beautiful place but don't get taken in by the local scam........local men will approach you as if they "know" you and talk you into going with them to visit the local "market". It's a scam!!! Once they get you there you will be talk you into buying loads of stuff you don't want at inflated prices. Don't fall for it like we did!!! When you refuse to buy they become a different person, sulky, pushy almost to the point of making you buy just to get away .........we resisted and just walked off. The next day we sat outside our hotel and watched these guys leading unsuspecting tourists to the market. Actually very funny to watch and hard to believe how easily we are taken in while on holiday. They are NOT your "friend", they just want your money. BTW, if you are wearing your hotel wrist band they will usually start by saying I know you from the hotel................. It catches you off guard!! Stay safe👍👍

We did a quad bike tour which took us to this absolutely stunning beach. Definitely the best beach I have ever seen. Cant spend to much time here as there is nothing here but so worth a visit.

It’s definitely worth a trip! We did see sharks even though we refused to take a tour guide. But we watched tour guides in the water not feeding sharks but just holding dead fish in the water, teasing the sharks to catch it and then pulling it out of the water again ..
if you take a taxi from Santa Maria it’s about 30-40€ to go to shark bay and back and the driver will wait for you. So no need to book a trip which is way more expensive.
You can rent shoes there or bring your own, in the water are lots of sharp rocks.
The toilet is basically not usable or at least really disgusting.
You can also buy drinks at a bar.
We spend about 40 minutes there.

Wonderful beach to walk on, paddle or swim or watch kite surfers. Very quiet. One bar at near the beach entrance otherwise bring your own refreshments

We took a taxi(8,000 escudos) at 9AM for a 170 km circuit over Santiago Island that stopped at this lovely town beach, returning to our Praia hotel at 1PM.
After departing the Tarrafal concentration camp at Chão Bom, we drove 3km N to the King Fisher Village on Ponta d'Atum to the newly built promenade. We drove it 1km along the coastline, stopping to photograph the 1889 Ponta Preta lighthouse, then continuing around the Tarrafal Bay with its leisure sailboats and working fishing boats ending at the beautiful protected sandy town beach.
Colorful wooden boats nestle at the port end while bathers gather at the twin coves at the north end.

The beach just beyond the port looks really pretty with white sand and a backdrop of hills. We walked along it and sat for a while and had a very relaxing time. We didn't get hassled, we were only there a short time.

Enjoyed the history of the area and how the wreck had changed over 50 years. Needs to be tidied and people to leave less rubbish.

On our first day in Mindelo we took a taxi past the airport to the Foya Branca Resort. From there we started walking on a beautiful path in the cliffs above the sea towards the lighthouse of Ponta do Farol. After about 30 minutes - with the lighthouse not being far away anymore - we had to return due to a rock slip which had blocked the already narrow path (people with vertigo might stay away from the start).

On our way back we could watch for quite some time a giant manta ray swimming on the surface of the sea. Next I felt like going for a swim. There were some waves, but not of the size, which would have inhibited me of going into the water. This was a mistake I was to regret later. I had been swimming for quite a while not too far from land, when suddenly a much bigger wave than all the previous ones built itself up next to me and tossed me around as if in a power washing machine.

First I thought that my back was broken and was worried that I could not move my legs anymore, but luckily I just felt pain and managed to reach the shore, where my wife was waiting, who had been smart enough not to test the waves. With much difficulty I managed to walk on the sand towards the village of Sao Pedro, where we had given appointment with our taxi driver.

If you you spend some hours on this beach during the week you'll not be disappointed but should you try it over the weekend and you might end up not having too much "space".

My tour of the island stopped here; for a small fee you can go to the salt pan and swim/float around. I wore my bathing suit under my clothes; bring a towel. It's cool to feel yourself floating in the water, almost whether you wan to or not. The salt stays on you, leaving my suit with a fine layer of grit. It's a good experience suitable for people of most ages. Afterwards you can walk up a dirt "path" to the top of the mine and have a great view of the salt pans on one side and the desert on the other.

Sunday 14th November and we visited the Southwestern side of the Island on our Quad Zone Tour.

Travelling along the coast we visited a number of spectacular beaches and this one was no exception. It is located between Praia de Santa Monica and Praia Varadinho.

We zipped across the amazing dunes ending up on the beach where we parked up. We clambered up and down the massive white sand dunes ending up at the sea with it's crystal clean water and crashing waves.

We did stop briefly, again, at a viewpoint, from here we had a panoramic view along the beach, dunes, the ocean and mountainous background.

There are no facilities on the beach, including sunloungers and umbrellas so it remains totally unspoilt, simply beautiful.

It's a nice beach and is thankfully being kept clean. Water is practically lukewarm as February is a hot month in Praia. Use plenty of sunscreen.
