Booked the guided tour - TOTALLY worth it! It wasn’t just someone telling you history - our guide was sharing HIS history. His family lived the life and told the stories. Great “off the beaten path” place to get a feel for what Hawaii was really like over a century ago.

I decided last minute to go have a look around Pearl Harbour on my last day in Hawaii. So glad I did. It was very interesting and I felt I learnt a lot more about this sad day in history. I just caught the local bus (took about an hour). Once there you can look around a free museum and get the free shuttle to Ford Island to see the Missouri. You need to buy tickets to go on board the Missouri, into the aviation museum and out to the Arizona Memorial.

We took the self-guided audio tour. It only took us abut an hour or so but we learned a lot about Hawaii’s history. The museum staff help guide you from room to room and were available and very willing to answer any questions. Highly recommend this as a nice cultural break from the noise of the beaches in Honolulu/Waikiki.

We did not get to take the boat to the Memorial. We received an email on the first day on our trip that it had been cancelled due to repairs. We still toured the grounds and museums, but wish I could have seen the monument up close.

Definitely worthwhile for learning about Hawaii. Offers in-depth understanding of the Polynesian people who settled here over 1,000 years ago, and describes the transformation of life on the islands down to the present day. Located not far from downtown.

We went planning on eating lunch there after a bit of research, I did not see bad reviews, but don't depend on the restaurant, not many menu items were available, my burger was very disappointing, bottled beer was very pricey.

Museum is under reservations, but Corp of Engineers are picking up the slack with information and them and the island

Tropic Lighting Museum is located at Schofield Barracks, a military base. You need to get a day pass at the Lyman Gate to enter. Requirements are US citizen, Driver License, AND proof of insurance.

Museum is a history of the military stationed here and Wheeler Air Field. Admission is free and donations are accepted. If you are in the area, this museum is worth a visit

The former home of heiress Doris Duke becomes Shangri La, a museum of Islamic art and design. The five-acre site is on the ocean with beautifully landscaped grounds. Access is via a fifteen-minute bus ride from the Honolulu Museum of Art. A reservation and additional ticket are required for Shangri La.
The craftmanship of the architectural details is outstanding. Highlights include carved marble panels, amazing detailed walls, ceilings and columns, tile settings on the floors and walls, rare vases and other artwork.
Tour is largely self-guided. Three docents were onsite to answer questions. There were three short oral presentations in the introduction gallery, the central courtyard and the Mihrab gallery. All three presentations were worthwhile. The new Qajar gallery was my favorite.

I never imagined that I would go inside a submarine. It was amazing to see and the cramped conditions that the sailors lived in. It was a bit claustrophobic, but very interesting as well.

Stopped by for Giovanni's shrimp and was pleasantly surprised to find some galleries. Stopped in here and got to meet the artist. Really nice artwork.

This guy is good. His pictures were amazing. They had a video going on that featured Clark talking about his art. It was obvious that he was not at the gallery. The girls working were giggling, texting etc, playing with the security guard etc. not paying attention to anyone that walked him. He needs new staff but his pictures are awesome.

Definitely worth the visit if your into architecture, history and rain forests. I saw some complaints about the fees but you have to remember that the only thing supporting the museum are the entry tickets. I enjoyed learning more about Queen Emma and seeing the original furniture. What craftsmanship! Definitely check out the gift shop for locally crafted items. This is also a great stop on the way to Nu‘uanu Pali Lookout.

I tried doing some research on the Barbie Museum before my trip to Oahu and found out that the proprietor had passed away in 2011. I was still hopeful that someone was carrying on her legacy so I gave them a call when I was in town.

Unfortunately, I was connected with a woman at a liquor store. Apparently thats who has the phone number now. She told me she gets these calls quite often and doesn't know anything about the museum. Bummer.
