They held a class for those who didn’t feel comfortable using the snorkeling device and multiple team members are in the ocean with you to make sure you are safe.
They make the experience extra special by using their marine biology skills to snorkel with you and teach you about the different fish and species on the coral reef. Seeing the big sea turtles and all the beautiful colors on the reef was picturesque!
All the staff was really kind and knowledgeable. We were combined with other cruises due to cancelations with the Lahina fires and ended up on a larger cruise ship. Although we had to wait over an hour for people from other cruise times to show up, the wait was well worth it. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and communicated everything. They provided snorkel gear and several options of flotation devices. Even though there were so many people, the service was still great. The fruit, pastries, and juice in the morning were so delicious. Vegetables were served for a snack. Lunch was sandwiches and pasta salad. All the food was really good. I felt completely comfortable on the boat and snorkeling, too. The fish and turtles were really fun to see while snorkeling. - drbrian23Antioch, CA8 contributionsWe had a great trip with the Makena Coast Dive Charter's crew and special treat - professional underwater photography from Kyle, owner of Submerged Media, LLC. We left early and were the first boat to Molokini Crater - which means we had the best mooring position! So many fish, excellent support from Captain Joe and Crew Bryan. I love the boat rides (20 minutes out and back) almost as much as the snorkeling. After about and hour and half at Molokini, we went to the coast to find the sea turtles. We were not disappointed. In an hour or so at the second snorkeling spot we saw over a dozen different turtles and more amazing fish. We also witnessed an "Animal Kingdom moment" when a moray eel attacked an octopus. The octopus escaped through a cloud of black ink. The return to Kikei Boat Launch was perfect with a delicious local sandwich and fruit juice. - barbaray7155 contributionsOur family of 4 had a great half day out with the fantastic Pride of Maui crew! Although we were not able to snorkel in the Molokini crater due to choppy conditions, we were able to get close enough to admire the landmark and hope to explore it another time. We moved on to a calmer location where we snorkelled and snuba’d. Justin initiated our first snuba experience and took good care of us, going above, beyond to show us highlights of the marine life below (down to the minty fresh regulators and bubble ringed GoPro photos!) We felt safe, in good hands.
Light breakfast & a hearty BBQ lunch were delicious, with refreshing ginger cocktails, freshly made cookies to keep us satisfied.
The boat was immaculate, lots of space sun & bottom decks, just the right mix and group size on board. We brought our own but the gear provided was clean, top notch.
Mahalo to Capt and each member of the fun, engaging, organized, hardworking crew who made our day so memorable.

- Christian D2 contributionsWe booked the boat trip on the Calypso because we took a more holistic view: experiencing Molokini Crater and some good snorkeling but also using the jump platform and slides for the kids. We thought that the size of the vessel gives everybody enough space and more comfort. Our experience fully confirmed our expectations/hopes.
Molokini Crater offers farreaching underwater views for snorkelers, which is in itself amazing. However, the types, numbers and variety of fish can also be found in other beach/shore spots on Maui and it is true that some spots offer even more. We knew this fact beforehand and were therefore not disappointed by Molokini Crater like some expressed in other reviews. We also enjoyed looking for and swimming with seas turtles in turtle town. We had three life guards with us in the water in both snorkeling spots, who paid close attention to what was going on.
The equipment we got was good, the basic stuff was for free and sufficient. We only got friendly offers for other useful or nice things and services but a "no ,thank you" was always respected. Nobody of the crew pressured us to buy or rent anything else. The food was sufficint and good quality, the service of the crew very friendly and attentative. Very friendly and a great communicator. We got to see several turtles along with an eel and other tropical fish. The trip itself was easy to paddle. John has been doing this for 20 years and is very knowledgeable. He also offers a photo package that I highly recommend. We got over 170 pictures and videos of our adventure.
