Waimea Canyon Waimea
#1 of 129 Nature & Parks in Kauai
We have been to Hawaii and done hikes all over the Big Island, in Volcanoes National Park, Northwest shore on Maui as well as hiking into Haleakala crater, but the Garden Island evaded us until this year.
An absolute Kauai MUST! Beautiful curvy, climbing road with stop-offs to park and walk to the canyon's edge.

Na Pali Coast State Park Wainiha
#2 of 129 Nature & Parks in Kauai
Viewing the spectacular cliffs from the water in fast, comfortable boats afforded us a perspective on this natural monument that was a perfect compliment to our earlier hikes thru the park.
Go early and park before the crowds and walk into Hanacapia Valley ... if energy allows walk to the Falls and enjoy the peaceful yet energetic huge beautiful Falls !

Waimea Canyon State Park Waimea
#4 of 129 Nature & Parks in Kauai
Breathtaking views from every overlook, Kope'e State park has some great, short trails, I recommend the Pihea overlook of the Na Poli coastline; only a mile and absolutely out of this world beautiful.
Once into the park proper, you will pass a variety of lookouts (many with public restrooms), with each offering a unique perspective of the magnificent canyon and the waterfalls.

Kauai Path Kapaa

Beautiful shoreline paved path along beaches, beach parks, town, food, and more.
We live in Kaaa and I ride my bike from the Kapaa park to Donkey beach which is the end of bike path.

Polihale State Park Waimea
#8 of 129 Nature & Parks in Kauai
DIRECTIONS: Put "Monkeypod Tree" into your GPS and it will take you down the unpaved road right into the heart of the park (Lower Saki Mana Rd, Waimea) at the base of a huge, beautiful tree.
This is a place I highly recommend for anyone who loves wild, untamed nature at it's finest!

Maha'ulepu Heritage Trail Poipu
#9 of 129 Nature & Parks in Kauai
I’ve hiked quite a bit (Grand Canyon, Zion and Arches National Parks) but this has been my favorite!
If you continue on the trail you'll come upon the Makauwahi Cave Reserve, a 17 acre creative park that belongs to the Grove Farm Company where hikers are welcome to come through.
Kalalau Trail

You cand try and park right at the mouth of the trail up by Ke'e beach but slim chances- theres a larger lot a little further away and you just walk up more- but this lot also gets extremely full extremely fast!

Koke'e State Park Kekaha
#11 of 129 Nature & Parks in Kauai
Without a doubt we would recommend Kokee State Park for anyone looking to for a nice drive up the canyon road, easy access to overlooks with amazing views and also for anyone looking for some nice hiking.
Koke'e State Park is also home to the Kalalau lookout which affords spectacular views of the Kalalau Valley and Pu'u O Kila lookout that affords even better views of the Kalalau Valley along with views of Mt.

Limahuli Garden and Preserve Hanalei
#12 of 129 Nature & Parks in Kauai
If you love botanical gardens, peaceful flowing streams or just nature at it's most beautiful, then you need to do yourself a favor and visit this place!
Further into the park the path takes you through several different Hawaiian ecosystems containing natural plants as well as some introduced ones which have become invasive.
Makawehi Lithified Cliffs Poipu
#13 of 129 Nature & Parks in Kauai
The thing I enjoyed most about this tropical nature hike was each cliff and each side of the cliff was a little different from the next.
We ran every morning from the Poipu Beach Park, out past the Hyatt, to the horse stables and got on the cliff trails and ran back to Shipwreck Beach and home for a 8-10km loop.

As you pull in to park expect to be greeted by NeNe (geese) - then wander about and read about shear waters, albatross, frigate, seagulls and more then chance spotting your favorite!

After hiking the Awa'awapuhi trail in Koke'e State Park and the famous Kalalau Trail to the waterfall we found this hike possibly even more enjoyable.

Allerton Garden Poipu
#16 of 129 Nature & Parks in Kauai
From the fig trees filmed in Jurassic Park movies to the quiet bubbling of the water feature, this garden will amaze you with its diverse plant life.
Tanji had a great number of factual historical tales to tell, with many interesting facts about the garden and specifically, the incredible world of nature, truly worth a few hours.

If you get the chance take a helicopter ride to see the whole Island including the spectacular waterfalls, places where Jurassic Park and Pirates of the Caribbean were filmed.
As will all beach parks we visited, there are grassy areas and picnic tables.

There is something for everyone here from watching tai chi in the park to various levels of surfers in the waves and paddle boarders .....cute pups walking their owners, families playing in the sand, lots of space...
Easily one of the world's top beaches, Hanalei sits at the site most famous for Jurassic Park and other movie filming spots.

Kuilau Ridge Trail Kapaa
#19 of 129 Nature & Parks in Kauai
Spent a lovely couple of hours on a moderate hike along the ridgeline with great views on either side and lovely places to stop and simply enjoy nature and the scenery.
But it is very beautiful and lush, it's like you are walking in the Jurassic Park, very worth the hike.

Poipu Beach Park Poipu
#20 of 129 Nature & Parks in Kauai
As with many of the beach parks in Hawaii, Poipu Beach Park has an expansive grass area with plenty of shade, a couple of shaded pavilions and several picnic tables, including barbecue grills.
We saw a giant sea turtle and lots of fish while snorkeling with my 8yo! Kids also loved the park and we enjoyed ice cream and lunch across the street.

Tunnels Beach
#21 of 129 Nature & Parks in Kauai
Over the course of six days I was able to snorkel shore-accessible Kauai reefs and rocks at Salt Ponds State Park, Poipu Beach Park, Larsen's Beach, Anini Beach, and Haena (Tunnels) Beach.
The parking lot fills up fast as it is used for the Haena Beach, and many hikers who do the 22 miles round trip hike to Kalalau Valley park here as well.

... cream was a nice stopover on the way back from Waimea canyon (1.5 hours from Princeville) where a little trek around the nature trail just after milestone 8.5 was just enough to keep the kids and parents happy.
This was great because we were able to complimentary Valet park at the hotel and then a very short walk out of the driveway to Hideaways.
Na Aina Kai Botanical Gardens Kilauea
#26 of 129 Nature & Parks in Kauai
We are gardeners; so maybe our hearts appreciate this magical place and the work it do doubt took to bring it all together; but the combination of whimsy and nature combine to make this a most memorable place.
With acres of different kinds of gardens and a sculpture park there is plenty to see.
National Tropical Botanical Garden Poipu
#27 of 129 Nature & Parks in Kauai
... orchid after orchid, there was a genuinely rich and diverse selection of plants and trees, so much so that the site was used in filming a number of Hollywood blockbusters, chief among them "Jurassic Park."
Bob, our tour guide, broke open breadfruit for us to try, allowed us to pick a couple key limes, let us smell ginger and took pictures of us (like a boss) at the Banyon trees filmed in the movie Jurassic Park.

Haena Beach Park Kapaa
#28 of 129 Nature & Parks in Kauai
Come early...parking area gets full...bring chairs and lunch and drinks and watch the world go by...great hang out ...sometimes waves real strong...what a great nature show
All the other islands seem to be a bit commercial, whereas Kauai and the Haena Beach Park was stunningly awe-inspiring.
Baby Beach Poipu
#29 of 129 Nature & Parks in Kauai
This location, which is connected to Poipu Beach Park, is a wonderful section of beach that is ideal for children and their caregivers.
The park is small, but perfect for a day at the beach with children, parking is across the street.
Lawa'i Beach Koloa
#30 of 129 Nature & Parks in Kauai
Best to go in / out around the middle of the park, where there are fewer rocks, and a smooth surface area to enter / exit.
This beach is quite small, and you need to park on the street across the road from the beach.
