What travelers are saying
- Reed S338 contributionsThis museum is right downtown in an old bank building. Admission price is reasonable. They do offer a good overview of Pacific tsunamis. Primarily exhibits from local experiences. There is multiple countries shown and their experiences. There is a small gift shop.Written May 9, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- TonyHellSeattle, WA25 contributionsThe Kona Coffee Living History Farm is a terrific opportunity to see a place where time has stood still and what old Kona was like in the 1930's and beyond. The Uchida family farm stands today as it was almost 100 year ago. The Historical Society will take you through the plantation and orchards and show what it took to make a living off the land as a leasehold farmer. Then you'll see the crown jewel of the tour: the original farmhouse and coffee processing sheds. If you want to learn about the island and it's agricultural heritage, provided by informed and entertaining (re: NOT dry!) docents, please visit. You won't regret it.
And, Kona Nightingales!Written July 15, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - denver64Denver15 contributionsI am a museum professional (and have visited hundreds of museums) and was extremely impressed with this gem. Natural history and cultural collections with attractive and informative displays. 2nd Floor gallery was renovated during pandemic and laid out well, good lighting, great labels, and informative content. Learned more about Hawaii from this museum than any other reading or place visited. Well done!Written April 11, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

- mrghost11Hilo, HI21 contributionsIf you find yourself in Hilo and have an hour or two to kill. This is a nice enough place to see and learn about Japanese Arts and they even have a store type where you can purchase.Written October 3, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Mike HPhoenix, AZ1,905 contributionsThis museum is about the trains that ran the sugar cane to the plants for processing. It is a small museum but we weren't able to get in as it was closed.Written February 25, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Footprints5866685 contributionsThis museum is well worth a visit. There are samples of the various types of lava present in the area, following the 2018 eruption. The volunteer who explained the exhibits to us was very knowledgeable; her own home had been affected by the 2018 event. We learned a lot in the 45 minutes we spent there, and found the video that was shown very emotionally moving.Written March 28, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- niceguy09Bowral, Australia68 contributionsSo many awesome bonsai, and so much good information. I wish I had allowed time for a class.... when we were approaching I really wasn't sure what to expect as you pass through what looks like a field of forgoten bonsai, but the bonsai inside were amazing tropical bonsai and David was so ready to tell us all about how to grow and plant up our own bonsai- start to finish.Written August 16, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- ShashaChino Valley, AZ279 contributionsThe quilts here are jaw-droppingly beautiful. All worked by hand with backings as beautiful as the fronts. A display of kona cloth also provides the history and process used to create the cloth.
