What travelers are saying
- SuzertteChapVictor, NY59 contributionsWhen you arrive at Pololu Valley Lookout, there is a small 8 car parking spot. Everyone else just parks along the road. The lookout is like something out of a movie. In fact, there has to have been a movie that used this view! Amazing. Peaceful. Inspiring. Please be sure not to miss this! I didn't hike down to the water as I had a knee injury, but the husband did and loved it. What an incredible display of Mother Nature at work.Written May 14, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- williwannaBoston, MA104 contributionsThe lookout is pretty, you can see the valley, the far-away mountain. However, the most famous trail that can let you reach the valley and mountain is closed for maintenance or something.
Still recommend a visit to the look out, but other than taking photos, there is not much to do.Written April 18, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Brown_SamanthaKennewick, WA1,346 contributionsWe took about two hours round trip for this drive. Lots of lava flow fields, overlooks, trails. Very fun and leisurely drive. At the end, you are rewarded with the beautiful lava sea arch Holei.
Packed ample water and snacks. Pretty desolate drive with vast lava throughout the decades. Wonderful journey.Written April 17, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - CowboyStanwood, WA460 contributionsWorth the drive. Limited parking but you should go and check it out. Watch out for heavy surf, you might get wet.Written May 13, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- nlcuEugene, OR37 contributionsThe ranch was beautiful and definitely a different experience from our many previous visits. But the apartment was disappointing because the view over green hills to the ocean from the wall of windows in the main room was completely blocked by the roof of the adjacent house. This was not shown in any of the photos so it was easy to expect views like the photos. Most reviewers didn’t mention the obstruction or that the little outside table had views of several old sheds and pens. Glimpses of rolling green are visible in side windows but none with comfortable seating (like in the stairwell going to the laundry in the garage). What bothered us so much would probably be no problem for younger, more active people who wouldn’t mind walking and sitting on the grass to enjoy the peaceful green vistas whatever the weather.Written May 17, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Destination98655Hartland, VT9 contributionsWe drove this road on our last day in Hawaii as part of an all day roadtrip from Kona around the island where we stopped at a few waterfalls, and saw many beautiful flowers, trees & goats!Written April 25, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Tom GSan Diego, CA221 contributionsPleasant, scenic drive from the Wiamea area over the mountain to Hawi, or the reverse, if you have driven north along the 270 to Hawi, Kapa'au and Pololu. Some spots to stop and take photos south toward Mauna Kea and Hapuna resorts. Windy roads, so take your time.Written March 26, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Mary DBend, OR5 contributionsTook the private tour in March 2022 with Matt. So impressed by the beautiful property, Matt's extensive knowledge, his warmth, and how engaging it was to spend over 2 hours with him learning the ins and outs of Greenwell Farms and kona coffee. My husband is a home roaster and was in heaven being able to ask Matt question after question. And my friends and I were equally as engaged even though we are not "coffee geeks". Highly recommend this experience!Written May 21, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Bob from PAElizabethtown, PA25 contributionsWorth seeing if you are in the area. It was the highlight of our time in the area because the horse back riding was so disappointing.Written May 19, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- marriott946London, UK348 contributionsWhen asked I said what I just saw was nothing, a jumble of things.
Then I added, "with the explanations attached everything took on a whole new meaning".
In todays world we expect excitement from everything, what we don't appreciate is today's excitement started somewhere and this cultural site gives us a somewhere for Hawaii.
Thank you HawaiiWritten May 20, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - tangojohnDallasDallas, TX1,098 contributionsBeautifully painted walls and ceilings. Enjoyed walking around the grounds also. They have restrooms too.Written December 2, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Erik JJerusalem, Israel2 contributionsThis is an absolute must-see while on the Big Island and well worth the price of admission, which goes towards maintaining the farm for future generations. Listening to the experiences of the guides and watching the demonstrations took us back in time nearly a century.Written February 2, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Munzer QSun Valley, ID1,026 contributionsOne of the best spots to snorkel on the big island. You can either do the 2 miles hike down which is fine, kayak rental on your own which is fine except you must tow the kayak as you snorkel because one is not allowed to dock it-no beach area or do a full boat-catamaran tour.
The snorkeling experience here is magical but you need water shoes. Really don’t miss this spot.Written May 23, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Papa’s and Nana’s TravelsArgyle, TX7 contributionsVery nice ride trough open cattle pasture. The guide encourages you not to ride “nose to tail “ as has been mentioned. Gentle, cared for, well trained horses. Appropriate for different ages and levels of experience. Generous weight limit for riders, far greater than most island stables. Good sized quarter horses. Two hour rides available.Written March 23, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- RealityEngagedKailua-Kona, HI44 contributionsWe loved coming here on a Saturday when there was 40-50 venders and lots of food trucks. We bought a lot of really well made items and ate from the Hawaiian Food truck. We thought that the food was awesome!!Written March 8, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
