So I decided to stop by southern belize as part of my Central America tour and I was recommended to go visit this little art gallery /museum. And I must commend the extraordinary effort and time the owners put into their little place. Very interesting pieces of art and old tools that were around since slavery days. It's really cool I highly recommend you visit this place. Oh and before I forget the owners told me that the gallery use to be their apartment that they then renovated into a gallery because of all the things they had and their friends would joke around and tell them their home is better off being on display. They took that advise literally and that's where their at now. Very interesting.

I highly highly highly recommend this tour. If you can, ask for Mark to be your guide. Mark was very kind, fun, and interesting, when talking about the tour or anything else. He was also extremely knowledgeable about everything in the process, and great at describing each step in detail. He included plenty of fun facts about Belizean culture and things that are involved in or relate to the rum making process. I won’t give away the entire experience (because you have to go!!) but I will say that I really really enjoyed interacting with all the ingridents, and of course the finished product as well. In addition, they will not skimp you on the pours when you do try the drinks, they make sure you have a enough of each. There are many different types as well. I recommend this tour to everyone, even if you aren’t a huge rum drinker. Again, ask for Mark! He really made the experience special and I am SO GLAD that I decided to take the tour. This is a MUST DO if you have the chance. Thank you again Mark!!

We hired a taxi to bring us from Placencia to Punta Gorda. We left at 07.00 a.m. and arrived in Punta Gorda just prior to 09.00 a.m. The taxi costs us 300 quetzals. We, then, took the 09:30 a.m. boat from Punta Gorda to Puerto Barrios. You need to be there at least half an hour prior to departure because you need to get through customs. At ticket for the boat is US$ 25 per person (age <8 years is free) and getting through customs is also quite expensive. We paid US$ 30 plus US$ 7.50 per person to get trough customs and for some nature/wildlife conservation fees, respectively. Our boat was full but fortunately we had made reservations for places on this boat two days before. We just send them an email and they were quite quick to respond. Another way to ensure a reservation is to call them (or, as we did, had some call them fir us because our Spanish is not good enough for a phone call).

The boat itself is quite small (imagine a boat with which you would go on an excursion up a small river and that's the size of the boat). The crossing to Puerto Barrios takes roughly an hour but is quite bumpy. You get life jackets but the smartest thing to do with those is to use them as cushions. You'll end up with quite a sore butt. Yet, the crossing to Guatemala is rather quick compared to doing it by buss. We tried to get a direct boat from Placencia to Puerto Barrios but there were no official ferries. This probably has to do with the fact that you are leaving Belize and you have to get through customs.

Once you arrive in Puerto Barrios things get quite hectic. Touts trying to sell trips to Livingston or trying to get you into taxis. The port itself is not a place you would like to stay so if you are passing trough, like we did, you will probably want to pass time in a hotel or a restaurant. We continued onwards to the airport and flew back to Guatemala City (the TAG 5.00 p.m. flight). This is a very small plain which can transport only 19-20 passengers so it is an "interesting" flight (some would say "scary" or "bumpy"). Finally we landed in Guatemala City around 6.00 p.m.

Obviously this is not the cheapest way to get from Placencia to Guatemala City but undoubtedly the fastest and you do not spend hours in a bus.

We drove past this little chocolate factory without time to stop, so I was happy to find their chocolate in the Belize City Airport. Cocoa Nib Crunch!
Possibly the best chocolate I’ve ever had. Reminded me of my favorite ice cream from Brighams in Cambridge, but more complex. Just a little square at a time was completely satisfying, and that’s good since it was $9 American (probably jacked way up for airport traffic).
Can’t wait to get back to Belize for Permit and Cotton Tree Chocolate!

I did a nighttime group drum lesson with dinner provided. The food was great and super accommodating to vegetarians and vegans! Be sure to try the cassava in coconut milk sauce and chickpea stew. The drum lesson was such a cool experience and lots of fun! We watched a performance from one of the instructors and some of the kids that are a part of the Drums Not Guns program, with dancers performing as well.

I had an absolutely fantastic deep tissue massage today, Indira really knows what she is doing and showed a great ability to find all the knots and tension, and the perfect way to get rid of them. Well worth it!

Naturally, Belize Coconut Products promises a luxurious jungle experience with its rich beauty bars, natural hair, and skin products. I have used her products for more than 5 years and I love how fragrant they smell and how soft they make my skin feel.

In love with the turmeric beauty bar.

Aliram's is owned and managed by Albert Aliram. He does not have a website, and is the only vehicle rental place we could find in Punta Gorda. He rents mid-size SUV's. We knew we would need a vehicle to reach the many attractions near Punta Gorda (which are mostly on gravel or dirt roads). We stayed in Punta Gorda for a week, and it was not practical to walk to town (heat and rain). He was recommended by our lodging host and I contacted him by email, then phone from the US. We reserved our SUV from him for a week plus, and he sent it with a driver (his brother Reuben) to pick us up in Belize City as we wanted to experience the country drive (4.5 hrs.) rather than fly to PG. Reuben met us (4) promptly for pick-up at our hotel in Belize City, and was full of information as we drove south to PG. He stopped to let us swim in a National Park along the way, and also stopped at an excellent restaurant for lunch. Alirams service and the local information they provided was super-helpful to the success of our Punta Gorda stay.

I highly recommend Toledo Cave & Adventure Tours! Bruno is an EXCEPTIONAL guide— extremely knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. He led our group of 13 through various sites in Toledo, and we can't stop raving about him and the amazing experiences we had. We truly got to immerse ourselves in the local culture and explore hidden gems off the beaten path.

Thank you so much Bruno, we are all impressed by you!!!

Absolutely amazing! Booked a fishing trip with this company through Norwegian cruise lines and had the most amazing time! Capt John and the “Fish Doctor” were so helpful and informative. Everyone on the trip caught multiple fish and it was a day to remember. The equipment was all in great condition and was well kept. Would highly recommend as it was one of the best excursions I have ever taken!!!!

We had an amazing time visiting the Chun family! The caves and waterfalls are far more amazing than the pictures let on. We loved making chocolate by hand and learning the traditional cooking methods. We foraged from native tropical plants and learned to cook with them. Lodging is rustic, so if you camp at all you'll enjoy the set up.
