- AaronTulsa, OK4 contributionsfirst time snorkeling and taking a boat out into the sea. the water is pristine, and you can see the color changes of different shades of dark blue/turquoise as you approach the islands. it is truly a tropical paradise to be on your own little island in the Caribbean while watching as pelicans, seagulls, and marine life surround you and remind you of how beautiful and fragile the ocean ecosystem is. the corals and creatures you see below are colorful and beyond breathtaking to see. the lunch was delicious, and we were told to throw our bones and scraps into the water so that a local barracuda could come eat the leftovers, showing how nothing goes to waste in the ecosystem. we topped off the snorkeling experience with a chance to witness a nurse shark, sea turtle, and several sting ray swimming just feet below us. truly a remarkable sight to witness and a great memory for everyone. our guides and crew were fabulous and got us out to the islands and back to shore safely while ensuring everyone was comfortable with their skills and using the equipment before snorkeling.Written August 1, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. He was friendly and knowledgeable, sharing all kinds of fascinating information during our tour and pointing out all the wildlife we would have otherwise missed. He impressed us with his skills maneuvering the boat through tight spaces and less than ideal weather conditions. I initially thought the cave tubing would just be something overly touristy but it ended up being equally amazing. I've done a lot of excursions in a lot of places and I can honestly say Jonathan "Johnnie" is the best guide I've ever had. Not only was he a wealth of information on our tours, he is a wealth of information on Belize itself. We learned a great deal from him and really enjoyed his company. We took this tour 13 years ago with our kids so we weren't really expecting to have as good a time on the return trip. We were 100% wrong! Monkey River village is still a quaint little place and Alice's food is just as fantastic. Our guides Douglas and Zane Garbutt were the best. Zane has eagle eyes and was pointing out things we would never have seen on our own. The howler monkeys were down from the canopy and literally no more than 5-10 feet from us. Lunch at Alice's restaurant was just as delicious as we remember. When we left Douglas took us to see manatee and we found a cow and calf almost immediately. Pretty cool for an Oklahoma kid and got a nice underwater video on the GoPro. We'll always remember this trip. Thanks again Splash! - Kristin K2 contributionsThis tour was amazing!! 100% recommend any trips with Captain Jaks, it may seem like a long distance to go from placencia but it’s so worth it. Christian took great care of us and we learned so much about the caves and Belize and the history. Go early (7 or 8am leave) on a fri/sat/sun and you may have the cave to yourselves like we did! I will never forget this trip!!
They provide towels, water, lunch so don’t worry about that. From the booking process with Hamerlin to the our guide everything was amazing. The guide showed us around, we saw some birds, crocodiles, and other wildlife. We did the river tubing and waterfall swim as well. Ended the day with a delicious belizean lunch. Jimmy introduced us to lots of different plants and fruits we had never tried before (or even heard of before). He is a great and honest guide who made this tour very memorable. He was incredibly reliable and exceeded our expectations in every way. In fact, everyone used was great. We were very happy with all accommodations and would recommend any of them to friends. Recommended the specific activities for us. Both spectacular. Local Belize lunch at the amazing Happy Ranch was one of the best meals on our trip. From the moment he picked us up, he educated my husband and myself about the beauty, the ecosystems, the economy, and the tourism of Belize. We drank in every fact on our way to the Che'il Mayan Chocolate Center. We chose the 1/2 day tour and could not have been happier. Israel also provided cold water, which was a welcome touch. Israel was also keen-eyed tour guide, spotting a toucan for us to appreciate and photograph.
