- Georgina4 contributionsWe had a great experience. We were expecting to be part of a group but it was a private tour!!! Our tour guide Mr. A and our driver were waiting for us when we came out of our hotel. Mr A spoke English and Spanish that was perfect for us. He was very knowledgeable and took good care of us to make sure we didn’t have any problems climbing or descending the Maya temples. I was very impressed with him because he helped a lady visiting without a guide, she was afraid of heights and afraid of moving up or down, she noticed and helped her. Lots of steps but manageable. Tremendous views from the Sky Temple and an interesting site made more so by the background noise of howler monkeys. - danielh5Westfield, NJ105 contributionsA visit to Tikal (as well as the ATM) were recommended by friends and most travel guides. Our family, two mid-50s and teenage son, selected Belize Family based on the reviews. Our guide was Sergio, he was great, very knowledgeable, set a good pace. Day was hot for us (from the Northeast US), not for locals. Lots of climbing steps of the temples, not much shade except the paths between sites. Bring lots of water and comfortable shoes. Also bus ride is very bumpy in many spots along the way (and takes more than 2 hours overall). Lunch was very good - we had the chicken and beef fajitas. Awesome guide with great communication! I still can’t believe the stunning Mayan city, the fascinating caves with stalagmites, stalactites and columns. - Clara B2 contributionsThis was truly amazing, and the most difficult experience ever - your fitness level matters and being informed of what to expect is important. You will be challenged I think no matter your lifestyle/age...I would dress differently for the adventure now that I have lived it. I'd wear long sleeves, and long leggings as part of the bathing suit because you will be climbing, stretching, scrunching, slipping, and sliding like you've probably never done before except when you were a little kid. So being flexible is important and wearing footwear/like swimwear is really helpful/like even sneakers would have been my choice if I knew before, also, you will be in sock feet (I thought for 20 ft in the sacred area) NOPE, a long trek/climbing with wet/socks/rocks, etc. so I'd recommend thick good socks/or 2 pairs as the wet/rocks and climbing is a trip you'll remember forever. Our Guide was remarkable, and so instrumental in the entire experience, Patrick Warrior, made this the most amazing adventure the entire day....he was surefooted, really brilliant, filled with fabulous people skills, yet so chill, AND gave us all an experience to remember all our lives. I'm forever grateful to Patrick for making sure that I could complete the trip, I had doubts and his skill, knowledge and manner of handling a group was so impressive, he was in the know the entire time....I am so proud that we did the trip! It is difficult to describe what you will do -- 3/4 mile into the dark/cold water/very wet sometimes, super small/areas - finding ways to get up/over/through will challenge most everyone. So, make sure you are comfortable going beyond, don't mind getting wet/and like working and trusting other people you just met. If you have any health issues, physical challenges esp. legs/arms and strength...this is not for you - I'd say having a really strong fitness level will make this a mind blowing day. The ruins were magnificent ant it was so interesting to learn about the history. Following that with an afternoon on the water, climbing waterfalls and cliff jumping was icing on the cake. - Hope OBognor Regis, UK29 contributionsAmazing tour from start to finish!! The driver Ariel was great, and friendly. Our tour guide Marlón was brilliant! He was so experienced and knowledgeable. He adapted the tour to suit our needs (expertly avoiding the crowds). Not only did he have an excellent knowledge of the cultural and natural heritage of the site, he also knew about all the animals and we were lucky to be able to see so many! He also showed us them through his binoculars. After the sunset, we walked back to the car and it was like a bonus night safari tour! We spotted a snake and even a tarantula!
