- le_traveler26Madison, WI38 contributionsTook Belize City to Caye Caulker water taxi on a Friday at 4:30pm. We arrived at 3:15p and easily purchased tickets with credit card at terminal in Belize City after $30 USD taxi ride (30min) from BZE airport to boat ferry. We bought tix to Caye Caulker and waited in terminal to board 15min prior. While you see two lines of people to board, they all go to the same boat. The water taxi stops first at Caye Caulker before heading onwards to San Pedro. Remember this will happen in reverse as well. Leaving Belize city the taxi was on-time and took 90 min.
Our next water ferry was scheduled on Monday at 12:45pm departure from Caye Caulker to San Pedro, we arrived at 11:40am to the ferry dock and immediately headed to buy tickets at ticket booth inside terminal. The ferry left 30min late which didn’t impact our trip but annoyed many passengers with children. The terminal in Caye Caulker is hot and uncomfortable while you wait inside hoping to get on the boat first to get a better seat.
Now on San Pedro, we are going to take the water ferry back to Belize City. Our flight are at 1pm and we are going to take the 7am scheduled ferry instead of 8:30am. Here is the thinking: if 8:30 ferry leaves at 9:15am and arrives in Belize City at 10:45am and it takes until 11am to get luggage picked up, we now have a 20-30min taxi ride to Intl BZE airport. We are eta at BZE around 11:30am for a 1pm flight. This with 30-45 min delays factored in for “island time” which is prolific everywhere we have gone in Belize. I don’t want to rush at the end. So 7:00am ferry it is to avoid missing flights home.
I will add a new review for our return trip back and let you know if 7am was worth it. #bzetomsnWritten June 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Ride is about an hour.Written March 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- AndreaNVancouver, Canada111 contributionsWe were very impressed by how organized, punctual and effective they are with their passengers, luggage and everything else they transport to and from the islands! The boats are not big, so they can be harsh on the back in rougher seas like we had on the way to San Pedro. The way back was smooth and relaxed.
When booking a round trip online, you don't get you choose a return date and time. This can only be picked upon checkin at the terminal. We found out though, that if you email them beforehand mentioning your rountrip reservation, they can reserve a specific date and time for the return for you. This was very important to us, as we were 4 with luggage and needed to be on a specific ferry back to the mainland...Written March 12, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I tried to look for things to do for cruise port Belize City. There were some excursions but none that really interested me...
Ended up deciding to go to the museum and the older church...
Language:
Creole - Belizean Creole
But they all speak English at the port.
Currency:
Their dollar is pegged to the USD at a rate of 2 BZD to 1 USD
Shopping:
There was a surprising amount of shopping there at the port... I hate to admit this but the prices were actually quite decent... There are many shops for everyones tastes and you can spend quite a bit of time just shopping. Alot of knick knacks for everyone,...
Also they have an abundant amount of fake designer bags, etc... I'm not condoning this, but it was everywhere and were cheap in comparison to the fake market in NY...
Food:
They also have quite a bit of restaurants at the pier...
Don't bother if you can... The food on the ship is probably better anyways. We went just to get some conch fritters as we couldn't get that on the ship, but even then it wasn't that great...
Museum:
Well... it was pretty much ok. I kind of liked it to get the history and understanding but... Better to learn from wikipedia and learn there before you go, but feel good that at least I paid for the admission and help the community.
Church:
Didn't even bother... Felt there was nothing really to see.
Overall:
Not much to see if you wander by yourself and go outside of the port, except if you are on an excursions.
If you don't have an excursion that has your interest, a walk along the port and just getting on the ground and walking about for a bit and come back to the ship for lunch or afternoon walk after lunch and coming back in time for cruise departure...Written April 19, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We were picked up at our hotel and brought to the office by a nice young man to complete the final paperwork. He loaned us a perfect size ice chest. The ladies in the office were very knowledgeable and helpful. We rented the car for 2 weeks and our car was great! Everything worked perfectly. The air conditioner was a beautiful thing on our travels! I absolutely recommend them! They were kind, friendly, knowledgeable and no nonsense cost.Written September 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - James G1 contributionWe spent a week in Belize and worked with Paul and Cordelia to schedule drives all over the country. Belize City to Punta Gorda, then back up the Dangriga, then to the Tropical Education Center (Belize Zoo), then back the the airport.
Paul and Cordelia were super responsive, courteous, and professional during our booking process, and half the price of some other services we looked at.
We rode with Jorge (I believe that's the spelling) for the longest legs, and he was a wonderful conversationalist. We picked his brain about all kinds of topics and learned a lot about Belizean culture, nature, etc. We also rode with Troy, who was hilarious and also a great conversationalist.
And our last trip was actually Paul himself, who was the cherry on top of our vacation. Just one of the kindest, most thoughtful people you could meet, and in our short ~30 minute ride, we had in-depth and enlightening conversations about everything Belize.
HIGHLY recommend these folks. They won't just get you around the country safely, quickly, and comfortably - you'll also learn a lot from the incredible people who work there.Written August 18, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Have a handy online prebooking link that you can trust. We used them several times while in Belize and they never disappointed. Denny responds very quickly via text or emails.

- Bryan K1 contributionWe got a ride from Abe from Placenia to San Ignacio. Abe was super accommodating and friendly - he came early to pick us up and recommended a few stops along the Hummingbird Highway. We stopped at the Inland Blue Hole National Park and for lunch along the way. While we needed transportation, Abe gave us a full-on tour. Highly recommend!
WhatsApp Abe for recommendations on getting to Tikal or other sites/tours. He's super helpful. - Sander KGroningen, The Netherlands3 contributionsWhile stuck in a hard situation of unhelpful belizean operators, which make departure time very dependent on day to day situations, they really try their best to to help the travellers.Written September 9, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JSharp1 contributionElias cares deeply for everyone he serves. I had the privilege of riding with him by myself to pick up supplies for our trip. We had a great conversation about his heart and care for the children of Belize. He has a wonderful sense of humor and a joyous soul.
His knowledge of the country, the roads, and the BIRDS is second-to-none! At no point did we every feel unsafe. He actually made our trip all the better.
I look forward to working with him again in the future.Written January 14, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I was traveling alone with my teenage son and we felt so cared for. They went out of their way to make our experience perfect! - Liz WLansing, MI13 contributionsTroy was our driver from Belize City to Placencia and also from Placencia to Belize City. We didn't want to rent a car, since it was our first time in Belize, and weren't sure about driving in a foreign country. Troy was great, and obviously experienced in making the drive from BZ to Placencia (he told us he sometimes makes the trip 4 times in a day!). He drives fast, but everyone does in Belize, and he really knows the roadway. On the way there, we had a private transfer and stopped at a grocery in Belize City and for a pit stop in Dangriga. Troy told us a lot about Belize... we're really glad we did this instead of taking a puddle jumper, because we got to learn so much from Troy.
On the way back, we booked a shared shuttle leaving from Placencia at 6:00 am, but ended up being the only passengers. We stopped for a pit stop in Dangriga, and got Johnnycakes at the gas station (highly recommended for a yummy breakfast! We made it to the airport by 9:20, with plenty of time to spare for our 12:10 flight.
If you don't mind a fast drive, take the shuttle and see more of Belize!Written January 19, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. She scheduled Ismael as our driver both ways and he was amazing!!! We had an extra hour when we arrived in Belize City for our return flight home. He took us to a few places for some great photo ops and showed us around downtown Belize City! He also knows exactly where to get the COLDEST beer in Belize city! The two of them made this a great experience! True professionals! Thanks Kiki and Ismael!Written February 14, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
