Caya Caulker is a great place to chill at cute simple bars or restaurants but has some of the worst beaches in the region. It’s a great place to pay for trips off the island but as a beach destination it sucks. The beaches are filthy with piles or rotting seaweed and plastic trash piled high.

It’s main appeal is leaving on a trip or hanging around at the local bars and eateries but don’t come for beach life.

These Mayan ruins are amazing. Brenda, who grew up among the ruins and has worked on the archeological digs and on sorting, preserving, and cataloging artifacts found there, was an extremely knowledgeable guide. She really elevated the tour with drawings of how each building looked at different times.

Naz picked us up at the hotel and answered our questions on the drive to the boat launch. Brenda piloted the boat and led us through Lamani.

We had such a great time. There were 7 of us and our guide “T” was the absolute best guide. He took care of us from the time we landed in Belize. He told us all about Belize history and answered all of our questions. The zip line was really fun and once we finished there, it was about 10 minute drive to the cane tubing. There are local vendors at the cable tubing. They were all very friendly. Not pushy. “T” was our guide through the caves and man he did a phenomenal job. Just know it was a vey long walk to get to the caves.
Take this tour. Hopefully you will have ”T” as your guide.

Great tour with Stacey and crew. Only reason why not 5 stars is company did not communicate that we needed to walk out to the pier which was just across the street from our hotel. They indicated we would be picked up. Only way we made tour is one of the taxi drivers in front of hotel told us. I sent company a couple of messages and no response. Horrible communication !!!

Splash wave tours Saved the day!

We were 2 hrs late getting off the ship for a 5.5 hour shark and stingray tour. Thanks carnival!

Basically the large tour boats for all the excursion had already left.
For what my girlfriend and I went threw getting off the cruise ship splash wave tours ultimately saved the day for us.

A local fish captain agreed to take us out to the island and reef to swim with stingrays and shark and bring us back.
I was not made the boat that was available was older and smaller than the tour was set up for.

Captain Leslie kept us close to the chain of islands to keep the ride as smooth as conditions would let him.
Being born and raised there he was extremely knowledgeable of the island’s history and all the surrounding area of the country.
It is over a hour boat ride with a smaller boat to the reef but with a quick stop at the island for a bathroom stop and pre order lunch. Another splash wave tour guide joined us to go with us out to the reef.

YES! It is as amazing as you would think.
Standing in waste deep water like a cat stingrays brush against your legs. The sharks did not even care if you were petting them and yes they have a ruff skin and the stingrays were smooth.
The shark only cared about the dead minnows that were bing fed to them by the Captin.
We also took a few min to snorkel the deeper area of the reef where I seen a green eel and lots of small fish. The guide dove down and got a Congo shell to pass around for us to look at.

Back to the island to drop the guid off and have lunch. Shrimp and veggies were delicious and our rum punch was really good.

On the way back we stopped at an underwater cave ten feet off the shore with hundreds of tarpon about 3ft long swimming all over.
Leslie our captain showed us the best way to feed the fish by dangling minnows over the water from the boat.
Yes the long big tarpon would come out of the water and take the minnows from your had.
    (What an explosive experience)

    good food great people!

My husband and I flew in to Belize City and overnighted near the ferry. Our plan was to do this tour and then take the ferry to Caye Caulker at the end of the day. We decide to go with the private tour because we were concerned about timing and making sure we made it back in time for the last ferry. It worked out perfectly!
Dorian picked us up from our hotel in a nicely air conditioned vehicle and we were able to store our luggage in it. At the end of the day he dropped us off directly at the ferry terminal. Couldn’t have been easier!
We started at Alun Ha which was about an hour drive from the city, He did a great job explaining the history and pointing out the perfect photo opportunities. Since it was a private tour, we were able to go at our own pace. Turns out that climbing one pyramid was enough for me 😜
After that it was about 80 minutes to our next stop for the cave tubing. We had a tasty lunch at a little restaurant that was in the park where the cave tubing was. The chicken and rice was included in the tour though the restaurant had other menu items so I’m sure they could accommodate special dietary needs. There was a bar that you could pay extra for adult beverages.
We were a little surprised that the cave tubing portion of our tour was not private. We joined two sisters from NY and our guide was Paul for that part of the tour. The sisters were sweet and the group was still very small so it worked out just fine.
There were facilities to change clothes at the park, which I wish we knew about in advance. It was about a 30 minute walk on a well groomed trail carrying your tubes to the launch point. Anything you bring on the water will get wet. The tubing experience was very gentle and so beautiful. After we got out of the water, there were some howler monkeys putting on quite the show.
Overall a great experience! This adventure is offered by a lot of companies but I definitely think that paying a little more to make it private was well worth it!

We had such a great time in this tour! The Mayan ruins were fascinating and the cave tubing was so much fun. Each activity was the perfect length. Our incredible guide, Elvin, elevated the experience even more. He was amazing at his job and went above and beyond. Highly this trip, and Elvin as a guide.

We actually took two tours through UpClose Belize, the ATM cave tour and the 3x combo with monkeys, zip lining and cave tubing. Words can’t express the incredible adventure that UpClose Belize provided us. The tours themselves took us through conservation, history and fun! Whether it was up in the tree tops or below ground in a cave, all the guides were knowledgeable, enthusiastic and entertaining. We especially adored Norman who was friendly and matched the energy of the group. I couldn’t imagine a better time. THANK YOU ALL! 5 stars!!!

We had a fantastic trip. We traveled as a group of 5 adults. We loved Valentin, our primary Belize contact. He was incredibly reliable and exceeded our expectations in every way. In fact, everyone used was great. We were very happy with all accommodations and would recommend any of them to friends. We added a day trip to Tikal in Guatemala and this too was seamless.

Wonderful fun time with Alex and Jose as only seven of us sped across the water in the twin-outboard boat, a low rooster tail trailing behind us. They said it was the best weather they had had in some time. We stopped at Caye Caulker to put in our lunch order at Fantasy Dining, then headed out to the Coral Gardens to be guided by Jose. They were the largest coral heads I had seen in my prior snorkeling experience, and the water was clear. We saw schools of blue tang, and other individual fish, but it was not as teeming with fish as I thought it would be. They said the best time to really see the reef is in a night snorkel. Then we were off to Shark Ray Alley, where the nurse sharks and manta rays gathered. Alex fed the 15 or so sharks herring, while we got out the other side of the boat into 3-4' of water, with manta rays gliding all around us. I got within 2' of the writhing intertwined sharks, taking pictures with my underwater camera. We hopped back in the boat to eat our lunch at Fantasy Dining. My wife got the special of stone crab claw curry with coconut rice and a garden salad, and I got mild jerk chicken breast with coconut rice and caramelized plantains. We sat at a picnic table under a cover, enjoying the most delicious authentic food we had ever had with our pop in glass bottles. We were in heaven! Caye Caulker is only 3 sand streets deep, so we could not get lost if we wished to explore. We were enjoying real island life! At the end, a baker rolled in his two-wheeled cart with his freshly baked goods - banana cake, pineapple roll, coconut cake, coconut roll, and coconut tarts -- $3 each or 2/$5. I got the coconut cake from the baker, who had been doing it for 29 years, still warm, and oh so good! We boarded the boat to go back to Belize City in time to catch one of the last tenders back to the ship, racing another like-fitted boat, and beating it. Great people, and a great day!

My friend and I strongly wanted to do kayaking instead of tubing and our decision was confirmed when we arrived at the site. The short hike was fun, with Marco being a fun guide (we tasted termites!). The entry point to the river was beautiful and it was so much more exciting to paddle upstream into the caves than just floating down on tubes. Paddling wasn't too hard but definitely takes a good amount of energy. Bats swooped around the ceiling as our headlamps passed, and the underground river as seen by our small lights felt very adventurous. We had a detour to climb up a cave wall to see Mayan pottery shards, then back to the downstream portion of the kayak. The rapids made me nervous at first, but they weren't really too bad and we had no incidents.
That was followed by a big lunch, ordered ahead of time, so it was ready right away. Really tasty. Then a longer drive to Xunantunich, which worked out great since we were staying in San Ignacio, not going back to Belize City.
At Xunantunich, we went into the museum for some information about Mayan culture before walking around the site. We weren't able to see all of it because it was getting later in the day, but it was impressive and a good way to whet our appetite for a later trip to Tikal.
I definitely recommend Marco as being very friendly and helpful!

We started early in the morning and was picked up at X' Tan Ha. When we arrived at Hol Chan, it was packed with several boats and lots of snorkelers. Our fun guides decided to go first to Shark Ray Alley, which was a wonderful decision as there was only one other boat there. There were so many nurse sharks feeding on the chum they threw in, it was incredible. We got to snorkel and see sting ray, nurse sharks (obviously), and lots of other fish. After we left Shark Ray Alley, off to Hol Chan, where we spent about 35 minutes with our guide snorkeling the area where we saw more sting ray, sea turtles. Our guide would swim to the bottom and get some of the fish to move out of the reef. We saw Jacks, groupers, gray snappers, angelfish, but we didn't see any seahorses. Definitely recommend.
