Review: Mayan World Destination - Waterfalls

Mayan World Destination is a hidden gem and a must-visit for anyone exploring the area! We drove ourselves to the site, and while the dirt road was a bit bumpy, the adventure added to the charm of the experience. Admission was very reasonable at just $20 Belizean dollars per person, especially considering the stunning natural beauty that awaited us.

The waterfalls themselves are absolutely breathtaking. The crystal-clear waters are perfect for swimming, and you could easily spend an entire day enjoying the serene surroundings. Adding to the experience, we were lucky enough to spot some amazing wildlife during our visit—a small pack of white-nosed coatis and some stunning birds with vibrant yellow tails. Seeing these animals in their natural habitat was an unexpected and delightful bonus!

If you’re in the area and looking for an unforgettable experience, Mayan World Destination is definitely worth the trip. Just be prepared for a rustic journey to this beautiful oasis!

We went to Nim Li Punit as an NCL excursion. It is a beautiful, elevated setting. The stellas found on the property were fascinating. The indigenous guides were very informative. The ruins are interesting but not grand and impressive temples. But if Mayan history interests you- this is a great site.

It's a very cool place to see. Has signs of Mayan civilization like steps, grinding stone and what looked like a bed. If the road is closed you could still hike there. I suggest shoes with good grip as it can get very slippery there.

We were very impressed by how organized, punctual and effective they are with their passengers, luggage and everything else they transport to and from the islands! The boats are not big, so they can be harsh on the back in rougher seas like we had on the way to San Pedro. The way back was smooth and relaxed.
When booking a round trip online, you don't get you choose a return date and time. This can only be picked upon checkin at the terminal. We found out though, that if you email them beforehand mentioning your rountrip reservation, they can reserve a specific date and time for the return for you. This was very important to us, as we were 4 with luggage and needed to be on a specific ferry back to the mainland...

An incredible dive site. Lots to see- giant groupers, sharks, rays, turtles, barracudas and many more. This is one of the stops after the Blue Hole.

What an amazing educational experience. It is very hands on. You get to hold a few birds of prey. Their dedication to conservation is admirable. People who work there are truly passionate about their mission. Highly recommend. Our kids (5.5 and 8 yrs old) loved it!

Very nice place, with great pools and different activities. Food could be better, but it's not a core of your visit there. Coffee served could be significantly better. However, swimming pools, showers and natural self-guided trails are really well organized. Highly recommend for the weekend with kids.

I have served in Belize for six years as a missionary. I have spent a lot of time working in the villages and with the people of this amazing nation. I recently took a group of high school students on a tour to Eladio's so that they could see an organic cacao farm in full operation and see chocolate made the same way as the ancient Mayans. This a a tour that is 100% genuine. It is not a tourist trap. Every building from the foundational posts to the poles, thatch, and wis, are made from the same materials you would expect to see in a village setting untainted by the expectations of tourists. Set in the hills of San Pedro Columbia, the Eladio family warmly welcomes you into their world, as it really is. The patriarch, Mr. Eladio, an old Mayan Indian of 60+ years, took us on a walking tour of his farm. The walk lasted for more than an hour. During the tour, he shared his wisdom and his personal story of being raised poor with little education but with a strong desire to have a successful farm. He attributes his success to a loving mother, and to reading the Bible, which he says told him to work hard and learn from nature. From nature he said he learned that everything big and small all works together to create the things man needs. For example, bats bring seeds to the farm and squirrels plant seeds. A nearby, stingless bee hive provides pollination for his plants. Worms and bacteria make the soil good for all the plants. Eladio was quick to show us several medicinal plants and a tree that makes natural soap. He allowed us to partake of different fruit from trees all growing naturally along the trail.

After the walking tour we were greeted by other family members who fed us a lunch of chicken caldo with rice and corn tortillas. The drink for the meal was a warm cacao drink. Again, I can't stress enough to the wary traveler, that the meal was 100% genuine . Nothing is fake or boxed.

After the meal, we were given a full demonstration on the making of chocolate from the cacoa bean. We watched the roasting process, the making of the nibs, the breaking down of the nibs on the traditional metate Maya stone, into a buttery soft and silky smooth chocolate paste. This was used to make a drink for us which was served in a calabash dish. We were also given samples of chocolate candy which again was made from the traditional processes.

I feel very confident in highly recommending this tour and family to anyone who is seeking to know and understand a small part of traditional ancient Mayan people.

Its very much self guided - and while you hear some hiway noise from time to time it is a good romp into the jungle - flora, fauna - lots of signs for interpretation - watch out if it has rained - it will be muddy and slippy.... right beside belize river which you get a number of views of - take your bug spray (they have some at the front counter if you need it - very thoughtful of the warden). Its cheap and a good hour+ exploration. btw I heard rustling and thought i was being stalked - finally looked up and indeed it was curious george following me along from above - apparently there are a few troops of monkeys that habituate the place.....
