What travelers are saying
- TravreadBaltimore, MD185 contributionsVery nice, picturesque. Went after 5 pm and walked to the end of the trail around maroon lake. My husband hiked up to Crater Lake, but said the view of the lake was not very scenic. Saw some mule deer and a couple of birds. Stayed until after sunset, but since it was a clear day and the sun sets on the opposite side, there were no colors in the sky for a sunset picture.Written October 5, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rebecca B222 contributionsPiece of cake in good weather, if you have already have had the experience of driving Trail Ridge Road in RMNP or Mt Blue Sky (even if only up to Summit Lake). Driving east to west (Denver/Twin Lakes to Aspen) in the morning means the sun will be behind you, and the westbound (Aspen-bound) direction has you on the inner mountain-side of the road, not the outer cliff-side, for most of the drive. So if you are a timid driver, do this route east to west in the morning to get to Aspen.
We enjoyed stopping at
-Grottos Trail (on Aspen side)
-Twin Lakes Rec Area or any day use fishing site for photos (Twin Lakes side, east of Twin Lakes). Westbound view of Twin Lakes and the mountains is gorgeous.
And of course the continental divide viewpoint at the topWritten September 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We took the complimentary 45 minute nature hike (which was worth doing) and then continued on along the Ridge Trail for another 30-40 minutes before turning around. It was a gorgeous summer day, and it was magnificently quiet among the aspens. Nice views of the city from the gondola. We contemplated hiking up or down the mountain but in the end, taking the gondola was the better choice. We weren’t impressed by the food options at the top (ski resort caferteria), so we opted not to eat up there.Written September 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mike B2 contributionsThe landscaping is gorgeous, it was still full of blooming flowers in mid-September, and the lyrics of John Denver songs, among other quotes, was especially and surprisingly moving.Written September 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Floridasailor_11Port Charlotte, FL174 contributionsNot well marked…missed the small entrance sign the first time, but the then found it on the return. Deeply rutted , short gravel entrance road. Limited parking…15-20 cars? Not many trail markers, easy to miss twists & turns. Moderately tough hike climbing huge rocks about 1/2 mile to the top of the grotto. But well worth it. The ice cave is very difficult to climb down into, but again worth it.
The ruggedness, babbling water cascade, beauty, and serenity are awesome. You could spend 1/2 hr…or 2+ hrs.
There is a short, easy trail with bridge to view the bottom of the water cascade for those not into the challenging hike.
Would go again.Written September 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The only other people at the lake were a wedding party taking professional photos. The reflection of Maroon Lake with lit up Bells is something we won't soon forget. The loop itself was nice, but it didn't compare to the views right at the lake in our opinion. If you want more stunning views, head up to Crater Lake.Written September 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SusanBar2013Michigan, United States12 contributionsWhat a fabulous bike ride. Trail is quite flat but scenery is amazing. We even had a black bear cross the trail in front of us. Would recommend this ride for anyone in the area!Written September 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DebbieBGSunny Isles Beach, FL346 contributionsGreat ski mountain, not easy way down. Experts only, I don’t recommend for newbies or small kids.
Not many stops for eating or bathroom. Excellent long runsWritten December 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Marla RBeaver Creek, CO384 contributionsBest snow of the four mountains and zero waits. Tried all the mountains and kept returning to Buttermilk. More sun to get on the mountain so the snow was best at Buttermilk over Highlands and Aspen Mountain. Stuck to Tie Hack and Summit Express (got a little icy towards the very bottom). Amazing to be here the first week of January and experience zero waits in any lift lines. Only sort of negative and this is probably because it was early in season was the Summit Express and Tie Hack chair lifts - getting off the lift was very aggressive for a snowboarder as it was very fast and steep and that's from a seasoned boarder. Could use adding more snow to make it not so aggressive on speed and limited time to prep to get off the lift.Written January 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jeremiah ZRoseville, MN3,081 contributionsThis trail was amazing. Most of the hike on the way up to the lake is in the woods, with occasional views from time to time. Once you reach Crater Lake, you will be amazed at how close the Bells are in front of you. We were there just after sunrise in late July and no one else was at the lake other than us. Definitely get there early!Written September 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- James N6 contributionsIf you like advanced skiing or snowboarding this is the place for you. Although it does have easy runs. The thing I love most about this mountain is that there are a ton of wood trails. Definitely recommend itWritten October 1, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Franciska BGreenwich, CT14 contributionsRented E-Bikes and road up Castle Creek Road to eat at Pine Creek Cookhouse! Breathtaking views along the way! Just beautiful.
