- SkwikiBurnaby, Canada1,778 contributionsWe saw the towers glistening in the afternoon sun as we passed through town and decided to check it out. Didn't want to bother the owner or the neighbors so we took a couple of photos from the car and drove away. Nice to get off the highway for a very short break.Written July 15, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dorothy SNebraska15 contributionsIt is so worth taking the Cumbres & Toltec train through the mountains of southern Colorado and into northern New Mexico. It was so beautiful and relaxing the views are stunning. Did see some deer, antelope, and an elk.
Midway through we stopped for lunch, was shocked to see the buffets with a salad bar, the selection of different choices for the main course and desserts. You leave hungry it's your own fault!!!
Back on the train after the noon meal traveled on to Chama NM. again, the views are wonderful. We spent time riding in the open car where one of the knowledgeable volunteers inform you of the area's history.
A coach bus took us back to Antonito Co where our car was parked.
I want to take this train again sometime in the fall when the leaves change color, I know it would be beautiful scenery.

You could imagine the 1800's families viewing the area with awe at the stark, but beautiful vista.Written October 8, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LoriRed River, NM2 contributionsThe Very best way to experience the mountains. It was an amazing ride. I am so eager to share information so that others can go and see how beautiful it is out there. Cumbres Adventure Tours are the guides you want to take your family on a great adventure.
The equipment is top- notch, the guides are fun, informative and protective.
It was comfortable knowing the equipment is in excellent condition and the guides know where the dangers are. rocks, creeks, fence posts. They are wonderful guides.
The trail and distance is like nothing you'll ever experience any other way.

Bart(owner) was courteous, friendly, and explained everything. The horses were well trained. Everything we needed was in camp. We chose to bring our own food. It was a DIY trip with him bringing us in and out. Beautiful country!
Thanks Bart
