A great winter (or probably any season) afternoon learning about the unique distillery and the process of distilling spirits on site, followed by a great tasting experience in a warm, inviting tasting room.
... us great Cavalier Hotel and Virginia Beach history, taught us about bourbon and vodka, and introduced us to 3 great products (AVA Vodka, Tarnished Truth High Rye Bourbon, and Old Cavalier Single Barrel Bourbon).

Their Whyskey and Bourbon are smooth and rich, and their fruit wines are definitely different but delicious.
Catoctin Creek Distillery surpassed my wildest expectations---bright and airy, easy to find, loaded with great stories and explanations, AND featuring over-the-top great rye and gin.
It is a very relaxing environment, everyone is super friendly and the spirits reflect their passion and commitment to great ingredients and the time honored distillation process.
It is a small batch distillery tucked away in an unassuming area of Fredericksburg but once inside you will be treated to a small group tour that includes the barrel house and ends with a sample tasting.
(Such as many of the distilleries on Islay) First off they go into depth about the casks, they also have a very unique set of stills, the pot still is very unique and their hybrid still is very interesting.
Just a great vibe when you visit!! Pete "Pedro" gave us a fantastic tour!! Their Whisky and Gin are top notch high end quality!!! Great operation!! Love their logo, too!!
Their Gin, also made from malted barley, was also quite good and, I can attest, makes a good G&T when combined with Fever Tree! Copper Fox is well worth the detour for any whiskey lover (or those who may become one!)
This distillery has a fabouls array of whiskeys (bonded or not) and allows 6 tastings to pick out the best ones that fit your pleasure.
I've been to distilleries in KY, VA, Puerto Rico and Scotland and the folks here are some of the kindest and most friendly I've come across.
Perfectly made cocktails with your choice of any of their offerings - rye whiskey, gin, vodka, or an awesome honey whiskey that goes down easily, a little too easily.
Highly, highly recommend you stop by Silverback for a tasting - they are also constantly rotating their cocktails on the tasting menu.
Nelson County, Virginia (Hwy 151 and Hwy 29) should be on your list if your criteria are mountains, music, breweries, wineries, meaderies, and.... whiskey at Virginia Distillery Company.
The outdoor patio is very nice and although it was too cold to sit there when we visited in warmer weather this looks like a great place to dwell and enjoy some excellent scotch.
Owners are friendly and knowledgeable - treat you like friends, tasting room is gorgeous, outdoor space is lovely and has breathtaking views.
The rye is stupendous, the staff (both tasting room and production) were an absolute pleasure to talk to, the cocktails looked quite creative, and the location is gorgeous.
Being a whiskey fan, I stopped by thier tasting room on our trip to Colonial Williamsburg.
We visited several distilleries etc while on “girls weekend”.
Yum!!!! Handsome husband and I came home with a bottle of the ghost pepper vodka, Crabby Mary's, whiskey and Dr Stoners Herb infused vodka for our 23 year old.
We learned about the vodka, rum and bourbons and had a flight of samples for just 7.00!
Nice out of the way stop in the spectacular Piedmont region of Virginia noted for horses, orchards and wineries, along with spectacular fall foliage to take in.
From the moment you drive up you feel a sense of welcome, enter the tasting room to friendly faces and the best dry, yes bone dry, cider this side of the Atlantic.
But in our tasting, we had the potato vodka (pure & smooth), lemon whiskey (yummy), cinnamon whiskey (even more yummy), white whiskey (goes down nice) and the gin (excellent)!
My wife and I tried 2 separate flights all different products you can drink them straight or they make mini cocktails for you, the experience was fun and very informative we took a tour of the distillery and learn...
Informative Tour, Delicious Spirits, Great Adult Activity!
We were whisked away on a tour with a very pleasant and knowledgeable young man, after been given a choice of tour first or tasting first?
