- Michael LCardiff-by-the-Sea, CA24 contributionsFantastic estate and grounds. Amazing that it was built and still owned by one family. The audio tour is very good. Very nice wine tasting as wellWritten August 14, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Susie STampa, FL24 contributionsAmazing experience! Don't miss it if you are in the Charlotte area! Currently being renovated but expected to be done in the early fall.Written August 15, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - boxturtleHarrisonburg, VA17 contributionsWe really enjoyed this museum and we’re surprised it was free! We loved all of the animals and enjoyed learning about North Carolina. I’m glad we purchased tickets for the 3D Dinosaur movie too-it explains the history of dinosaurs.Written June 29, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Charlie BWilmington, NC29 contributionsLiving history! This huge battleship is simply amazing. The small museum in the visitor's center is interesting, but it's the self-guided tour route below decks that is the star. Very easy to navigate, and there are tons of signs with pictures explaining the area you're in. A few caveats: there are some steep ladders to climb, some passageways are narrow, and it can be pretty warm below decks during summer, but if you stick to just the second deck (the "city at sea") that's really interesting. But you should try to visit the engine and steering rooms if you can. You can go all the way to the bottom of the ship in one of the turrets and can tour the powder room - really interesting!
Right now, the superstructure is closed for repairs, but the main deck has a lot of interesting things to explore, like two of the three sixteen-inch gun turrets.
A lot to see - give yourself plenty of time and take water if it's hot.Written August 8, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We never really realized what this meant until we visited Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest. There is something quite magical about this place this sets it aside from any other forest we've visited in the U.S. Named for Joyce Kilmer who wrote the famous poem, "I think that I will never see a poem lovely as a tree...." this place is a lovely tribute to both the poet and the trees she wrote about.Written July 2, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ForealdohDayton, United States7 contributionsIf you have any doubts about visiting this place……DON’T! Book the staff guided tour and be sure to get Robin as your guide. She was very knowledgeable, fun, entertaining, compassionate about the history of the center. The center itself was very good and interesting. We enjoyed all the center had to offer. I promise you it will be one you will not forget.Written August 15, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - john lAustin, TX36 contributionsnot very strenuous at all, if you can climb a flight of stairs and are not wheelchair bound, you can do this. Beautiful little falls right off the road, it was higher than I imagined and not too trashy.(usually falls right on the road have more trash because of more people) Not a huge area on the bridge but adequate to snap a couple pictures then down. their and back in 30 minutes without rushed.Written August 7, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tim PMurphy, NC95 contributionsThe Arboretum was very nice. Bring water, snacks and good walking shoes because it is somewhat spread out.Written August 14, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Nancy DHigh Point, NC907 contributionsA group of friends toured the Greensboro Science Center. We arrived early in the day to try to escape the rising temperatures later in the day. We toured the outside exhibits. We were impressed with the improvements made to the Science Center. We found that early in the day many of the animals were still sleeping or were hidden inside their enclosures. Perhaps they would be more active later in the day. If you are visiting in the summer, take preventative measures that will protect you in the heat outside. During this visit, most of the group stayed outside. We will have to visit the indoor exhibits on another trip.Written August 8, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jacqueline GFort Mill, SC13 contributionsThis museum gives the history of the Cherokee Indian tribe through different periods of time to current day. There were several sections that unfortunately were not operational when I visited at the end of July.
There are lots of interesting artifacts and history on display. I was most impacted by the detail given to the Trail of Tears portion of the history. The museum presented a lot of different sides of the story, which I found very refreshing.
I would have liked more information on the present day tribe and their story since the relocation.Written August 12, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Overall very knowledgeable, nice experience. We purchased the “big daddy “ 70$ bucket and I made a jasper, tigers eye pendant. That I can’t wait to receive. We also purchased two smooth stones for our teen boys who stayed at home, while we had all the fun ;)Written July 23, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Daniel LApex, NC345 contributionsBring lots of water! There are not many places I saw to get it inside the garden, and it can get hot n humid here in NC.
Garden itself is beautiful, really liked the big bamboo forest especially. Easily can wonder around and explore for hours, so be ready for quite a walk.Written July 21, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Learned a lot walking uphill on Church Street to God's Acre cemetery seeing the Single Sister House Museum and Moravian Church and then downhill on Main Street hitting the Muddy Creek Cafe (for wraps and tuna sandwiches), the Winkler Bakery (don't miss the TikTok star there!) seeing the Miksch House, and Boy's House. Learned a lot about the Moravian culture and the African Americans enslaved and freed that lived in Salem.Written August 4, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
