Winds were 20mph sustained. This meant the sand was blowing and the waves were crashing. Outstanding! Snow fencing is up and causing sand drifts.
    Beautiful views.

This beach is beautiful! The sand is clean and the parking is so close. Walking out to the lighthouse is a nice experience.

Beautiful beach. Paid parking is $7.50 for 3 hours. There are food vendors although all were closed on the Sunday evening that we visited. Sand is clean and coast line is beautiful. Kids can also walk the sidewalk that goes by the marina where they can see yatchs and sailboats

this is a lovely area and very safe for families as is the whole south haven area. The water is cold tho and that,s coming from a visitor from Scotland. The beach is clean and not crowded it was an easy stroll to the concession stand which had a toilet which was clean. The area is spaced out by private areas for patrons but still left enough sand for us ordinary folk. The parking is very good lots of spaces and paying was no bother. You can even park as we did then walk into downtown obtain a picnic and then move onto beach.

Amazing pubic beach with scenery galore and the sweet town of Frankfort to boot! Plenty of free parking and great places to shop and eat in town,

A very long beach along Ludington's coast. It is also very beautiful, with lots of benches. I appreciate benches. This is a great place to relax and soak in the sun. A place to do Yoga, no thanks. A wonderful place to watch the sunset! A place you can enjoy freighters and The Passenger liner SS Bladder return to port. Very well upkept.

This is an easy 5 star review. I would definitely return!

We lucked out and found parking in Lot C across Bay Street. It cost $1.25 an hour to park. There was a tunnel you could walk through to access the beach (under the very busy street).

There is a concession stand and bathrooms. There is sand... Not tons... But enough. Beyond the sand is grass. Watch out for the droppings. Then beyond the grass is sidewalk that many were biking on.

The water was quite clean despite the reviews claiming sewage dumps. We lucked out and snagged a couple of the adirondack chairs that were there. The water was cold but you got used to it. It was quite refreshing on such a hot day.

We stayed for a couple of hours then walked to Front street to have lunch. Very close to all the shops and eateries on Front street.

Would definitely recommend. Dog friendly in certain areas.

Overall, we would highly recommend this campground! We stayed for 2 nights and had a great time. The front check in desk has some supplies you might need (ice, fire wood, etc.) and is open until 8:30. Some other notes....

    Pros:
Location! Being so close to the gorgeous beach on Lake Michigan was amazing. We stayed in the south loop of the campground and there was a small trail that led you right to the beach without even having to walk in the street!
Pets allowed. We brought our dog and she absolutely loved being in the campground and going to the beach. The beach is dog friendly if you walk along the boardwalk/sidewalk to the very end to the left and keep walking a bit once you are on the sand. There are signs that show you. Just make sure to CLEAN UP after your dog.
Great for groups! We weren't with a group, but many were in this campground and we were honestly jealous that we didn't have our friends there!
Works for tents, RVs, or there are 7 cabins in the campground. The cabins looked very rustic (and no bathroom) but its nice that there are options. Also there was an electricity hook up for our tent site!

    Cons:
Bathrooms. Staying in the South loop was great for beach access, but the bathroom situation was lacking. There were 4-5 porta-potties in the middle of the loop, but no showers/sinks on that side. Over by the driveway entrance to the loop, there was a faucet coming from the ground which was nice to have to be able to wash off your feet coming back from the beach. But if you wanted to use a sink or shower, the only options were in the other 2 loops which is a decent walk. Once you got over there, the facilities/shower was not the worst thing ever. It had warm water and a full door that you could lock and hang your stuff on. But definitely bring your shower shoes!
Pets allowed (is a pro and a con). Many of the pets there were poorly behaved and did not stop barking. This was very annoying to wake up to at 6am.
The ground. Might sound weird to have as a con (especially in a camp ground), but the ground in this cam ground needs some work. It seems that they might have had some gravel at some point, but never maintained it. So now its just dirt/dust. When cars drive by your site too fast, you are left in a giant dust cloud. And when it rained, we had every single thing with us covered in dirt. So it was a mess of a campsite to clean up for departure. Highly recommend bringing a tarp or two and a pop up tent for coverage from the rain.

You can't get bigger or cleaner than this beach! A great place to enjoy the sunset over the water. There are three playgrounds in walking distance of the sand. Parking is free, but it is so large it'll take you a few minutes to walk all the way to the water.

Lots of fun on the dunes, and they take you to like Michigan for a quick stop! We lucked out with the perfect weather as I decided to take my dad and sister along for the ride.
They have an organized ticket/call for rides and the gift shop is cute. The Penny press was a plus! Would definitely do this again!

I stopped at the State Park specifically to check out the beach and get some pictures. It wasn't too busy. There wasn't exactly a huge amount of area between the grasses and the water, but it was fine. There is a nice pavilion with bathrooms and shower. It was the evening when I made it there and the sun was going down. It was a good time to be there as the beach cleared out a bit.

I would have liked to have hiked a couple trails, but I didn't have time. I looks like you can get some good views of the shoal lighthouse if you want to take a decently long hike.

This is where the Plaate river ends. Right at lake Michigan. It has beautiful and clear waters. It's worth wading and playing in. The kids enjoyed it after rafting down the Plaate. A great reward for all the hard work.

The view was great and the ability to go up and get a better view was great. Loved looking at the lake from here.
