The Kentucky Derby 2023 was a great experience! The all inclusive tickets allows for free food (hamburgers, chicken tenders etc.) all day but the lines are very long and that was time consuming. The staff at the track were friendly and helpful. We parked at the Exposition Center and took the shuttle to the track. This was very well-organized but get there early and enjoy the whole day. The crowds noticeably increased as time went on. The actual Derby race was at 7 pm and we were at the track before noon.
The bleacher seats did not allow for a great view (we were back in row T) and since the bleacher seating is pretty much on the same level, you end up looking through rows and rows of people. Everyone stood on the bleachers anyway as the horses went by. Wear a nice hat and get dressed up!

Absolutely unreal. Non stop fireworks and air show prior all afternoon. Great fun and worth the trip if you’re coming from out of town.

This is our second year attending this event and we were fortunate to have a nice cool evening. We double back when it gets too crowded along the trail so we have a chance to see both sides. Those intricately carved pumpkins are mostly on the right. I heard a couple people say they are not 'carved pumpkins' but think they meant 'real' or 'fresh'. The program supplements the majority of the jack-o-lanterns with foam pumpkins but they do not detract from the event. In fact, they make the entire experience more immersive. Even though we were not a huge fan of the theme this year we were still inspired by the overall artistry. Patience is key and as stated previously, let the people who want to fly through zip past you.

Been a annual staple to the Kentucky Derby Festival Hot Air Balloon Race. Each spring the sky’s brighten with the inflation and preparation for launch.

Staying nearby we walked down to this riverside festival. The festival celebrates the local Goetta sausage. All vendors must include the sausage in their foods. There are so many choices to pick from. I settled on the donut breakfast sandwich. It was so delicious and made with two whole donuts. Musical entertainment is playing throughout the festival and family friendly carnival games were available. The festival is held for only two weekends in the summer.

We spent the weekend in West Liberty, KY to enjoy the Sorghum Festival held each year over the last full weekend in September. The Pork Loin sandwich with sorghum glaze was a big favorite. Live music all weekend from country, country/western, bluegrass, and rock 'n roll bands. The main street is shut down with a full block tent with vendors. Over at Mills Park there is a demonstration with the sorghum cane to the sorghum syrup. Served hot in a cup for tasting. I bought a fresh, hot 32 oz jar of sorghum processed that morning. The community is very inviting and friendly. We will be back next year. It is worth the trip from Indianapolis down to West Liberty for the weekend.

Very, Very nice Christmas light drive thru. Lots of lights and very cute displays all set to music. The drive was about 1.5 miles with new displays at each turn. Cincinnati area has several drive Christmas displays and this is one that should be added to your list during the holiday season. Cost is $ 6 per person. Check it out.

The festival that runs over the two weeks leading to the derby is a festival for the citizens. 90% of the is done by people that live in the area. The only exception is the air show. These planes and pilots come from all over the US. It's really a fun time.

Drove down to buy a 25 lb bag or so. nothing. 4 or 5 tents set up selling some jewelery, and t-shirts, et. Saw nothing of Pecan pies. When ordered one from menu, they immediately erased it saying they don't serve that kind. Suppose to be a Pecan festival, without being able to buy a single bag of Pecans except for the little hand size munchies.saw one lady on stage singing, and that was it!!!No events, nothing for the kids. Noy really the right time of the year for this, as the 2019 crop is still in the trees.. Too early for this festival!!!...Didn't find one place open in hickman Hy. yo buy some Pecans..
