This park has many beautiful drives, trails, overlooks and displays but the best part is learning the history of how important it was to opening Kentucky and the western lands to the settlers.
This is a little Gem of a National Park short drive up the mountain is fun great views and short walks to the historic sites.
Good Nature Hike
When you head out of town on route 21, the first sign you see for "theater" is probably not where you want to park (although we talked to a local family who were heading out to hike up the West Pinnacle trail and...
Diamond Caverns Park City
It was much prettier and much more interesting than Mammoth Cave (that we also visited), and our guide did a much better, more interesting tour than the national park ranger at Mammoth.
A beautifully decorated and nicely lit little show cave, well placed just off the road to Park City.
Cherokee Park Louisville
Great for walking, picnicking, cycling, volleyball courts, basketball courts, large picnic pavilians, Hogan's Fountain, nearby golf, archery range, soccer fields, fenced dog park, and the list goes on.
Cherokee Park sustains that as living promise, is cherished and utilized in the lives of those of the area, and welcomes visitors from throughout the world of all nationalities, faiths and generations.
The mansion is located within a state park, also called My Old Kentucky Home, and the grounds are beautifully groomed with gorgeous gardens.
My Old Kentucky Home State Park is a beautiful property, very well kept, with employees around that seem very happy to be working here, and insure you have a lovely visit.
State park trails are pretty and the number of options provides hikers and visitors of varying hiking abilities and fitness levels to experience the beautiful views of natural bridge and other sites.

Fat Man's Misery Mammoth Cave National Park
Terry our park ranger and guide was very knowledgeable.
I thought it was easy as long as you did what the park rangers suggest.
We had planned a weekend getaway to Mammoth Cave National Park, and because of a Groupon offered by Hidden River Cave and the American Cave Museum, added this tour along with ziplining and rappeling.
This is exactly what we were looking for as we've always enjoyed nature shows and wish we could do "that."
Mammoth Cave National Park Mammoth Cave National Park
The museum detailed the history of the formation of the cave, the early explorers, the surrounding countryside (and sinkholes) , the settlers, then the development of the cave into a national park.
Park Rangers Ashley and Chris were knowledgeable, able, interesting and fun tour hosts on this subterranean adventure.

... 25 minutes after a the short walk along a paved path and a scenic bridge crossing where we were met by our guide, Chase, who talked about the geology and history of the park as we continued to the cave entrance.
The Arboretum Lexington
You will pass gardens of all varieties, wetlands with decking weaving over the wet spots, large grasslands with wildflowers, and a small nature center in the center.
If you love nature, gardens, trees and flowers take a stroll in the Arboretum At the edge of the U. of Kentucky campus it is easy to get to and park.
There are cozy shaded seating areas and botanical gardens with benches and picnic tables, a lovely lake with a nature trail around it.
Hiking a trail, looking at the dogwoods and other blooming trees (and plants), visiting the nature center (with a bird-viewing window) was a wonderful experience this past weekend!
All the colors that are everywhere, makes this a great place for picnics, walks, hiking (they have hiking trails) and just to be close to nature.
Raven Run is a city operated park which offers so much from trail walking, to nature overlooks, overlooks to Palisades of Ky River, stream, and many wild animals to see.

Bob Noble Park Paducah
Beautiful park with lots and lots of geese :) Loved the castle like structures, had a fairytale feel!
Great family park with walking trails, fishing pond, childrens climbing area ,horse shoes, and picnic tables.
Cub Run Cave Cub Run
After seeing Mammoth Cave (both the Cleaveland Ave tour and Frozen Niagara tour) and Outlaw Cave at Kentucky Action Park, our party of ten loved Cub Run Cave.
It's a very close and intimate experience with nature.
A short trip by trail or car brings you to a most spectacular area of the park that includes the beautiful falls themselves as well as plenty of great views of the river gorge.
This is an awesome park with wonderful trails, beautiful waterfalls, and amazing vistas.

Easy to navigate through the park and everything can be done, from petting goats to kangaroos, feeding birds, cave tour, leaving about lots of different animals, even mining for gems!
We also hiked the nature path around the grounds to see the cerval cat (an exotic animal abuse rescue) and toured the cave.
Onyx Cave Cave City
This cave was so much prettier and fascinating than the big cave within Mammoth Cave Park .
You would miss so much only visiting the national park because there are so many different types and ages of caves in the area.
Amazing in the many sea and river fish, but also other creatures found in nature.
The price gets a little steep plus you need to pay to park but we had hours of great fun and memories.
Thoroughbred Park Lexington
This was an amazing little park with lifelike bronze statues of racehorses and also a few more horses in the park area.
My husband and I recently visited Lexington and strolled through the park reading historical plaques and most of all had a wonderful time taking pictures along with the bronze horse racing sculptures.
Touring around the place during the day part of our trip was extremely informative with some of the best tour guides I've seen at any park.
Its great for any age loving nature, peacefulness and history.
