- VFord2 contributionsThe Museum was incredibly heartwarming, reflective and filled with accurate history with original artifacts.Written March 18, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Tansy2015Brighton, MI317 contributionsNice park at the end of Fort Morgan Road. We got to watch the ferry, walk the beaches and watch freighters coast silently by. The fort was interesting with interpretation signs and many things to climb on and go through.Written March 18, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Adam RPotomac, MD40 contributionsStanding in Dr. King’s study where he composed sermons, or around his dining room table where he held meetings to plan the Montgomery Bus Boycott is an incomparable experience. Truly felt like standing on holy ground.Written February 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Geoff HSissinghurst, UK12,144 contributionsUnfortunately, could only admire this historical church from the outside. It was just sufficient to know, though, that Dr Martin Luther King, Jr, had been its pastor and to imagine him address his congregation. Would just love to have been able to see the interior.Written November 30, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Steve RCedar Rapids, IA6 contributionsVery very windy!! Great place to visit A little difficult to find the different places. Lots of tunnels and alleys which the grandkids loved.Written March 22, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 2-Lane-TravelerSavage, MN944 contributionsSadly, they don't open to late morning. So we missed getting inside the facility. They have done a nice job of restoring the historic site and grounds.Written March 16, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Travel 36029 contributionsCharming house, wonderful family story of raising 4 boys and then feeding the house to the city. The City of Florence had the foresight to restore and preserve this great example of FLW’s work, his ONLY in the state of Alabama! A “Must-See” while in the area. (It is why we routed our road trip through Florence!).Written March 16, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SydneySaint Louis, MO200 contributionsYou cannot visit Selma without visiting the Edmund Pettus Bridge. It looks exactly as it did in the 1960s, so it is a powerful reminder that the fight for civil rights was not too long ago. There are sidewalks on the bridge so it is easy to walk and spend time reflecting on the March to Montgomery.Written March 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Travel 36029 contributionsWonderful to get to see the place where a miracle happened! Helen Keller lead a world changing life and her legacy has inspired generations. - Footprints81994810 contributionsI really enjoyed my visit to the Richards DAR Mansion in Mobile. I was made very welcome and the tour was interesting and very informative. It was a treat to be invited to have tea and biscuits with the ladies following my visit. - hrobinson1114Nashville, TN2,690 contributionsI wouldn’t call this a museum. Memorial center, as named, is appropriate.
It is worthwhile as the staff are super nice and helpful, the film is informative, and it goes over personal accounts of those involved in the civil rights struggle. But that’s about all that’s here.
This isn’t in-depth; it took me less than an hour to complete my visit—but it’s a good adjunct to the EJI museum and memorial. And near the freedom rides museum. Each museum is only five dollars, so you can see the EJI museum and memorial, the civil rights memorial center, and the freedom rides museum for 15 total dollars. Why not?Written October 7, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Mostly photos and words. Several first editions on display. Some articles. A few artifacts from Zelda and their daughter, Scottie.
Entry is posted as five dollars, and I gave that in donation, but the docent told me that they haven’t been charging admission.
Also, check ahead before visiting. Hours posted for Saturday are 10-3, but the docent told me they were closing at one today.
Not worth a huge detour, but if you’re in town, it’s unique and free.
Also serves as an air bnb where you can stay in the F. Scott or Zelda suite.Written October 8, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This was by far the best attraction we saw while visiting Huntsville. I loved the history and the docents where amazing. We walked around with one of the docents, I believe his name is Paul, and he really made our visit special. We also walked around with Nancy who explained a lot of information in detail. I highly recommend coming here.Written December 10, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- DenverJim48Englewood, CO244 contributionsSo fortunate to get to walk historic Rickwood Field. Climbed up to the sportswriter's platform on the roof. An amazing historical display inside the building. How often an you walk the trail of history? So thankful.Written December 21, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
