- HolidaymakerfromHoveBrighton and Hove, UK2,858 contributionsOne of the highlights of our recent trip to Riga. The Central Market is enormous. Based in and around former Zeppelin aircraft hangars.
We enjoyed the various food halls. The raw fish meat and vegetables available was phenomenal. We had lunch in the food court which was great. It was very busy but we managed to get a couple of stools at the kebab stall where we enjoyed some beers and kebabs, one in a wrap and one plated.
The atmosphere was fun and the food was amazing. The staff were very friendly and we enjoyed watching them prepare the various dishes on offer.
Toilets available for 70 cents.

One stall stood out with long queue which was Pipars. They had varieties of foods to choose and reminded me of economy rice (Asia). Staff spoke English, very friendly and helpful to explain the type of dishes. Generous portion with good price. Straight by entering the place you can sense the smell of fresh ingredients sold varying from fish to bread to cakes. The center of attention for me is Rimi, followed by some smal stores. It takes time for a place like this to mature, but let's say 15 years should be enough! Walking about taking in what's there is what makes me interested. Quality, interesting stock and sensibly priced.
This place is worth well visit if you close by. A LOT of electronic (pults, batteries, chargers etc) and electronic spares (all locals seeking this not in the shops but here)/ A LOT of instruments and other related "iron". Dozen sellers of vintage/antic staff.
As for me - visiting every my visit to Riga.
