- Barbs25Staffordshire, UK3,910 contributionsPretty old town, we didn’t have too long here but managed to see bits on a walking tour. Nice buildings, cathedral and little streets as well as a decent viewpoint at the tower. Absolutely worth a wander aroundWritten October 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Chris MReading, UK17 contributionsThe KGB prison guided tour was excellent and very interesting. Unfortunately I felt only half the Museum exhibit, the second floor was to the same standard. The first floor contained a lot of information that can also be found at dedicated World War 2 Museums elsewhere.
I would recommend visiting but do make sure to book a guided tour for the prison as there are limited information boards.Written October 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Nice views over the city, nothing mind blowing but nice at the top, some benches around to enjoy the view for longerWritten October 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CleopatraBunnyFlagstaff, AZ1,795 contributionsVilnius has many churches but none like this one. The brick exterior survived Napoleon and the Russians. Take a look at the variety of bricks on display on the side. You’ll see where animals left their mark during formation of the bricks.Written September 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CleopatraBunnyFlagstaff, AZ1,795 contributionsYou’ll get a view here that is similar to the one at the Gediminas Tower but the path up goes through the woods. Some metal stairs, some wood, and part gravel/cobblestone path. Best light is in late afternoon when the crosses are bright white.Written September 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Julie CKent, UK666 contributionsWe really enjoyed our visit, but do your research before you go so you know what to seek out. There are some lovely bakeries, as well as many historical places, and some great street art.
Be aware that quite a lot seemed to be closed in February, and most shops don’t open until at least 11, with many not opening until 12 noon.
It is definitely worth visiting, and you need a good couple of hours here to explore everything.Written February 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are three beautiful churches near each other and many quaint shops and restaurants. The actual Gate of Dawn chapel is also great to see. When I visited there was a mass going on and you could hear the singing down on the street. The chapel itself is quite small and might not be so interesting unless you're a practising Catholic.Written July 15, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CptVonTrippLondon, UK301 contributionsThe interior is a little disappointing and surprisingly sparse but free to visit. The exterior is imposing, though, and the surrounding square is lively and impressive.Written September 18, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - _hawkins8aRochester, UK30 contributionsWe picked a lovely day to visit the Vilnius TV Tower, blue skies and great visibility. We had our lunch in the revolving restaurant on the 19th floor and the food was good and reasonably priced considering you were a captive audience. The restaurant took about an hour to go through 360 degrees. We had to pay €11 each basically just to go up and down in the lift, if we hadn’t eaten in the restaurant we don’t know what was available just to take in the view.Written March 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Deanosaur89Edmonton, Canada8,617 contributionsIt was nice walking through the gardens in April and seeing all the flowers in bloom. There are multiple chess tables and people playing chess and some playgrounds too. We walked through the gardens from St. Anne's Church and on our way to the Three Crosses Hill. The area beside the river is nice but we just enjoyed our time here.
The gardens would be good for a nice short walk or to spend time relaxing with your family. There were some restaurants near the fountain and a paid bathroom.Written April 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Until you look up above the doors you won't realise you've arrived at the "Pinigu Muziejus".
It's a small museum with lots of coins including international collectors' ones with descriptions in four languages including English. It's interesting to find the offerings from your own country's mint in their collection.
Some of the old coins going back to around 14th century are on a roll behind glass which you can move up and down to select the ones you wish to view through some built-in magnifiers - I've not seen that type of display before. They also have some 13th century Lithuanian long currency - silver ingots which look a bit like a cigar.
There was something downstairs that allowed you to strike your own coin with supervision - I didn't ask about doing that but there was a guide who had asked me earlier if I needed any help/information. There's also a 400oz gold bar you can lift to feel the weight of one.
A nice way to spend an hour and it's free.Written October 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Only let down was the toilets- chemical toilets when it is such a big area and when there are places to eat and drink isn't really good enough.
We saw a woodpecker, which was really special.Written April 12, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You can also see across to the Hill of Three Crosses. The funicular up the hill is €1 each way and only takes a minute or so; we walked back down: steps to start then cobbles about half of the way, quite steep and uneven underfoot.Written August 5, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Barbs25Staffordshire, UK3,910 contributionsA lovely square with the cathedral and tower. Sadly don’t have time to go inside but passed on a walking tour. - liucy752Taipei, Taiwan1,654 contributionsCrossing the Uzupis Bridge walk into the Uzupis, you should pay attention to the left side. On the stone wall of the river bank there is the bronze statue of the Uzupis Mermaid. This is a beautiful work created by sculptor Romas Vilciauskas in 2002.
It is said that the Mermaid's eyes have magical power that will attract you to stay here. However, I noticed that her eyes were looking up to the sky with kind of sadness. I searched as much information as I can, and couldn't find the creator's initial intention.
Don’t forget to meet the mermaid when you visit the Republic of Uzupis.Written September 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
