What travelers are saying
- Stefanie HLincoln, NE1,746 contributionsThe old town in Vilnius is such a gem! It is easily walkable, with parks, shops, cafes, and beautiful architecture to see. We had such a nice time just exploring the area.Written September 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - kirstyNorwich, UK14 contributionsWandered down to this museum on our first full day in Vilnius and were warmly greeted on entry by a very friendly English speaking member of staff. After a brief explanation of where to start we headed in, where another staff member explained what to do when viewing the first exhibit. It was quickly apparent you weren’t going to be able to trust your own eyes and senses here. After making our way around the first floor, we headed downstairs to get our minds blown! The staff were incredibly helpful explaining how we were seeing the illusions and why they confused your mind - fascinating stuff! Particularly enjoy hearing how I saw Einstein but others see who they’re familiar with. I don’t want to spoil any of the surprises in there, so I’ll not go into detail except to say the layout is nicely spaced out and it’s a well kept and managed museum well worth a trip!Written July 19, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Stefanie HLincoln, NE1,746 contributionsThe views are amazing from the top of the tower! We took the funicular up for $1 and then walked down. The stairs are steep, so you should be careful of your footing on the way down.Written September 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Deanosaur89Edmonton, Canada8,617 contributionsWe really appreciated the architecture on the outside of this church and of the nearby bell tower. The legend here is that once Napoleon saw the church he wished to take it back to Paris in the palm of his hand.
We went on a Sunday in the morning and poked our heads inside while a mass was taking place. There wasn't anywhere to sit so we decided to come back later in the afternoon to appreciate the interior further. There is a sign across the street in a spot where you can take a good picture of the facade and on the side of the church are examples of the bricks that were used in the construction of the church.
We included this church in a self guided walking tour of Vilnius because there are many things to see here. St. Anne's Church is close to the Bernardine Church and they have some nice gardens behind them which is a relaxing place to visit.Written April 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. For me the walk to the top was not challenging at all but if you need a break there are benches on the side so you can take a rest if you need it. I would definitely recommend this spot.Written August 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Julie CKent, UK666 contributionsWe really enjoyed our visit, but do your research before you go so you know what to seek out. There are some lovely bakeries, as well as many historical places, and some great street art.
Be aware that quite a lot seemed to be closed in February, and most shops don’t open until at least 11, with many not opening until 12 noon.
It is definitely worth visiting, and you need a good couple of hours here to explore everything.Written February 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The interior is interesting and well worth the time to walk around.Written August 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Deanosaur89Edmonton, Canada8,617 contributionsIt was nice walking through the gardens in April and seeing all the flowers in bloom. There are multiple chess tables and people playing chess and some playgrounds too. We walked through the gardens from St. Anne's Church and on our way to the Three Crosses Hill. The area beside the river is nice but we just enjoyed our time here.
The gardens would be good for a nice short walk or to spend time relaxing with your family. There were some restaurants near the fountain and a paid bathroom.Written April 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The mall looks nice, usually malls in Europe are small but this is quite big. I like the extensive Maxima I could buy all sorts of groceries.Written April 18, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kevin WLondon310 contributionsI wasn't sure if I had found it or not. There are two solid-looking, anonymous brown doors on the corner of a building. Until you look up above the doors you won't realise you've arrived at the "Pinigu Muziejus".
It's a small museum with lots of coins including international collectors' ones with descriptions in four languages including English. It's interesting to find the offerings from your own country's mint in their collection.
Some of the old coins going back to around 14th century are on a roll behind glass which you can move up and down to select the ones you wish to view through some built-in magnifiers - I've not seen that type of display before. They also have some 13th century Lithuanian long currency - silver ingots which look a bit like a cigar.
There was something downstairs that allowed you to strike your own coin with supervision - I didn't ask about doing that but there was a guide who had asked me earlier if I needed any help/information. There's also a 400oz gold bar you can lift to feel the weight of one.
A nice way to spend an hour and it's free.Written October 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We had our lunch in the revolving restaurant on the 19th floor and the food was good and reasonably priced considering you were a captive audience. The restaurant took about an hour to go through 360 degrees. We had to pay €11 each basically just to go up and down in the lift, if we hadn’t eaten in the restaurant we don’t know what was available just to take in the view.Written March 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AlexSwallowSheffield, UK1,656 contributionsPark was amazing and enormous. Only let down was the toilets- chemical toilets when it is such a big area and when there are places to eat and drink isn't really good enough.
We saw a woodpecker, which was really special.Written April 12, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are quite a few shops, cafes and squares along the street as well so you could spend either a quick 30 minutes walking it and taking pictures of a couple of hours if you plan on eating here. There are a couple of squares along the street and the end closest to the old town has Vilnius Cathedral at it. We thought the name change history in the 20th century was interesting where it was called everything from Polish Heroes to soviet heroes and now a Lithuanian hero!Written April 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MerrowmumGuildford, UK1,374 contributionsThere is an excellent view across Vilnius from here, from the Old Town to the modern business district. You can also see across to the Hill of Three Crosses. The funicular up the hill is €1 each way and only takes a minute or so; we walked back down: steps to start then cobbles about half of the way, quite steep and uneven underfoot.Written August 5, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NYU62Tucson, AZ18,359 contributionsThis was one of the few churches that we did not visit, when we were in Vilnius 8 years ago, because, every time, we passed it, it was closed. However, in 2016, we did get a chance to go up its Bell Tower. This time, we were staying at the Hotel directly across the street, and were planning to attend a free "kankliĹł" (a Lithuanian plucked string musical instrument belonging to the zither family) concert one evening.
The concert was to begin at 6 pm, and by 5 o'clock, the entire church was full. However, we got there early enough to get seats, although way in the back. The originally Gothic (later Baroque) Church is not too large, and it was completed back in 1426. There are beautiful stained glass windows, which at that hour of the day, especially stood out due to the light from outside. The acoustics were outstanding in this cavernous setting.
The very old, but well maintained, beautiful wooden pews were too narrow for us, and thus, quite uncomfortable, but, since the concert was only about 1.5 hours long, we sat it out. What a lovely venue for such a lovely concert!Written August 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
