What travelers are saying
- SeasondtravellerParis4,347 contributionsThe old town has many baroque churches and also some orthodox ones. In places, it’s almost like an old Italian town.Written May 7, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Work.Save.Travel.Repeat22 contributionsThe KGB Museum is dedicated to dark chapters in Lithuania's 20th century history.
The upstairs exhibition rooms on the first and second floor are packed with powerful artefacts and photographs. The English explanatory panels are well designed and give an impressive overview of the time of Nazi and Soviet occupation. The stories and personal fates get under the skin.
Especially the prison cells in the basement gave me goosebumps, even though I've been to other museums with KGB or Nazi prisons in the past. The cells as well as the execution chamber are left in their original condition.
Not a museum for small kids!
I would definitely recommend visiting (plan for ~2h)! Best combine it with the
Soviet Vilnius Walking Tour by Vilnius with Locals!Written April 24, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Morten KCopenhagen, Denmark4 contributionsIt was quite a good experience to be in the Museum of illusions. The Museum is easy to find with friendly staff, and the illusions are fun. There are small signs explaining all the illusions which also make for great learning.Written May 16, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- jbg74Saint Paul, MN823 contributionsThis is a great brick Gothic cathedral. The interior is nice but the exterior is what is really enjoyable.Written October 31, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- MargoVilnius, Lithuania15 contributionsOne of the must-see churches if you come to Vilnius and want to discover the marvels of the architecture. It is even called the most beautiful church of Vilnius.Written December 22, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Mike JChepstow, UK770 contributionsWe stopped here on the way from Riga to Vilnius expecting to see a hill with a few crosses but were amazed to find that there in fact more than 100,000 crosses and more are being added as we write this review! Interestingly the monument was originally established in the 19th century as a symbol of resistance to Russian rule. It is certainly worth a short stopover.Written May 7, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Mandolina63Stockholm, Sweden74 contributionsVisiting the gate of dawn takes maybe 20 minutes. Go inside and experience the old polish women praying in front of the madonna. When we were there, a priest came out to take confessions. On a whole a short but interesting experience. No entrance fee.Written January 24, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- TravellingDaveBPortsmouth, UK204 contributionsThe district of Uzupis, or is it the Republic of Uzupis? Interesting and very bohemian area close to the centre of Vilnius. Look out for the Constitution on a wall near the square. You can even get your passport stamped in the souvenir shop just over the bridge! A pleasant atmosphere with nice people and the Spunka Bar was very welcoming.Written February 26, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Jeremy PDallas, Texas106 contributionsYou must go up a steep cobblestone walk, or you can take a cable car ( 1 euro each direction ). You
may walk around for free, but there is a charge to enter the castle building.
The views from the peak are fabulous.Written May 25, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - blodwin52Derby, UK345 contributionsBeautiful place, unfortunately it was closed when we visited so we couldnt go inside. The architecture is so grand and amazing place to take photos.Written November 9, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- NathanLondon, UK33 contributionsWe were the only people there when we visited and the museum was closed, but was worth the visit to learn about the history of the area and pay your respects, there was parking available and the drive there was beautiful, information is provided by the various monuments and statuesWritten February 4, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Stuart GBearsden, UK5 contributionsSuperb Roccoco style interior. Exterior - Vilnian Baroque. Free to enter. Must be respectful if service is being conducted. Well worth a visit.Written November 9, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- FinnishMomSouthwest Finland, Finland57 contributionsOne of my favourite places in Vilnius. The beautiful garden, with nice overgrown lawns, beautiful trees & flowers and the river. This is a place to go have a picnic in, to have a romantic walk in and just to hang out reading a book in. Watch locals stroll by, play with their kids. Enjoy the silence. Very, very nice.Written May 16, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Stuart GBearsden, UK5 contributionsVery interesting museum. Free to enter and lots of exhibits. Not just about Lithuanian money but lots of European and USSR history too.Written November 9, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- kandb17Calgary, Canada200 contributionsOdd in way but pay to go in and to tower of cathedral as well, Was neat to wander the halls and see student life in a way. Tower was very good to go up, especially after a lot of walking and had elevator part way up.Written December 31, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
