When you see all of those photos for European river boats glide around the bends of the Danube…just remember, they’re all taken here!

The views from Visegard Citadel are spectacular and exactly as seen in print and television. Be advised that there is a good deal of walking to get up to the Citadel, even when parking in the closer lots. But the views are far and away worth it.

The Citadel itself is a little schmaltzy…kind of like a bad cross between a Renassiance festive and a museum display from the 1950’s. There are people in period medievel costumes walking around, one can try archery (well, sort of) and stick their head/hands into stockades…you get the picture. The displays are exceptionally dated and offer little narratives in poorly translated English (still better than my Hungarian). The citadel has maintained a general “feel” about what life would have been like nearly 800 years ago, so the overall impression is good…once you get through the less appealing top layer.

But the real driver here are the views, which are worth it hands down. Definitely on a must see list.

From this lookout there is a beautiful view to the castle. There is a small fee ( 400 ft ), absolutely worth for it. Really close to the castle and the bob ride.

We especially enjoy going to this adventure park since we have out little daughter and she reached the right maturity. She loves gokarting when Mama/Papa take turns to drive her around the twisty forest track in the tandem 2-seater family gokart which is a rare thing to find. She even has her own (non-functional) steering wheel to hold onto. The park is situated in the vicinity of Visegrád, so we usually take a trip around there on the weekend, starting with an espresso and an energy drink at the park's bar, then heading to the adrenaline inspiring gokart track. The crew is always helpful managing the race, towing stuck gokarts, choosing the right helmets, giving clever advice on racing and safety, letting us take photos, etc... If there are not too many guests it's easy to manage with the personnel to set up a round only for the family when we are racing among ourselves. We love to leave the safety barriers and carefully walk around the track during a race and take photos and videos of our beloved family members and friends, again no problem with that. Don't worry about the extra weight the tandem gokart + you kid means, if you find the right racing lines it is still possible to drive it on speed and beat average pilots in single seaters thus showing your little one how to achieve victory :) The 3*8-minute rounds package is suitable for our family now at a reasonable price, but slowly we'll get used to it and our hunger for speed grows :)

From the same parking lot (800HUF/day) you have access to the bobsleigh and to the Canopy Park. The bob rides are enjoyable but pretty short so you can spend more time at the Canopy Park where, besides the canopy tracks which are adult only, there is also an adventure park for kids. The adventure park was really interesting, I have never seen one like that before. Basically, in a pretty small space, they made tracks between all the trees available so whenever you reach a junction you have multiple choices which way to go. If you are big enough you can even climb the ladder to the higher level and do the same thing there. With all the permutations, you can end up spending a lot of time until you've tried them all. It was really worth the money.
