What travelers are saying
- JessabelllNew York City, NY235 contributionsWe took a trip to Tihany from our hotel in Balatonfurd. I am so glad we did! Tihany is a cute town right on the lake with amazing views. The Abbey sits right on a hill and it is beautiful all around the area. We did not go inside but walked a lot of the surrounding grounds. We spent a few hours in total walking around and visiting some shops in the town. It’s an easy and beautiful trip, with the time.Written May 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Andras’ LensAmsterdam, The Netherlands140 contributionsThe view of Balaton from the upper terrace is unbeatable. All dishes we had were all excellent. The duck confite was the prepared exceptionally well, by far the best duck dish I’ve ever had.
Staff is courteous.Written September 22, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tihany and market are synonyms :) The most popular product is dried lavender. Different type of souvenirs are available for the tourists.Written July 4, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DomokosBudapest, Hungary41 contributionsAfter taking a small hike to the top of the hill you are presented with a nice new look-out tower. It is only 3 floors but presents a beautiful 360 view. It is not far from Benedictine Abbey so you can easily incorporate the two in the same trip.Written June 23, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tiberiu_BaranyiTimisoara, Romania19,098 contributionsThe Via Dolorosa - is very spread amongst the catholic communities - even in Romania there several places where the catholic congregations have built such recreation of the road of the cross as it is described in the bible.
It is the basically the recreation of the crucifixion of Christ from the point were he has to carry his cross from the palace of Pilat to the Golgota hill where he was crucified.
This is no different - here a the end of the road at the top of the hill you shall find the 3 crosses , Christ crucified between the 2 thieves - as it was described in the Bible.
Overall, an interesting place - regardless if you are a believer or not- this may be interesting to check out.Written December 4, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Sok látnivalót nem ígérnek a barlangok, csak "két emeletnyi" XI. századi barlanglakást, de eredi túraként kellemes. Oda-vissza egy óra alatt megjárható.
A pleasant, approx. 2 x 30 minute walking tour to the remain of the monk caves. Follow the "grean line" marked shady trail starting from the shore, slightly uphill, throught the woods. Do not expect anything spectacular, just two caves (two levels) in the rock, used as monk flats in the 11th century. A nice excursion in the forest, 1 hour back and forth.Written May 27, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Also there are workshops about lavender, which is very nice also for children. For example we did get a glass of lavender jam for free, which was freshly produced right in front of us and the children did make handcraft flower sets with lavender.
Also there is a nice little coffee shop (many drinks and sweets with lavender ingredients, you should really try the fantastic kakao with real lavender chocolate) and a shop with many lavender products.Written August 7, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. With Balaton lake as background, it is a fitting trinute !Written November 20, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SJH42Ware, UK236 contributionsOk if rolls are your thing and clowns don't scare you and you have an interest in history this is a great little museum the ladies who appear to run it are friendly and kind it's cheap and it's very well laid out. In a lovely location in a sweet building.
But dolls scare the living daylights out of me and I really hated it.Written June 19, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Waxworks - depicting kings of Hungary, famous pirates - however there are only several wax statues with pirates and a small section with a mixed expo of native American inspired exhibits (but also shrunken heads are on expo - made of wax ... and that is way out of theme of the whole exhibition).
So yes, I've expected more - the faces of the statues have no real attention to details (so don't expect "Madame Tussaud") , clothing is vaguely accurate, and the explanations - well lets put it this way the English translation could be better - the Hungarian version is pretty decent, although it could have been made more interesting.
The whole exhibit you can visit in like not more than 30 minutes - and that includes reading the small panels ... so yes , it can be interesting to certain degree fir somebody who's never seen a Wax museum ... is small ...Written December 5, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The promenade is wide enough - pedestrian traffic only - although it can get crowded at given days or time of the day. In the end from this promenade you can take a lot of beautiful pictures towards lake Balaton - the Abbey - Echo Hill - you name it.
Also as you walk , there is a museum along the promenade and also some places where you can have a beverage or ice cream .... can be very nice, especially during the warmer month.Written December 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
