We had a day pass with private cabin, which was worth the price. There are a great selection of pools and everywhere is clean despite how busy it is.

The Hungarian Parliament Building isn’t just an iconic landmark—it’s a statement. This thing doesn’t sit by the Danube, it owns it. You see it from across the river, and it’s like a heavyweight champ, standing there in all its Neo-Gothic glory, dripping with details that shout, “I run this city.” Those spires, the massive dome, the sharp angles—it’s both elegant and dangerous, like it knows it’s untouchable.

Step inside, and it’s like you’ve walked into a royal palace that’s been soaked in history and politics for so long, you can feel the power in the air. The gold ceilings, the statues, the red carpets—it’s over the top in all the right ways. But it’s not just about being pretty. This place is a fortress for Hungary’s past, present, and future. Every corridor, every chamber is a reminder that this building has seen it all, and it’s not done yet.

You walk out of the Parliament, and Budapest doesn’t look the same anymore. That building just gave you a history lesson, a political thriller, and an art tour all at once. It’s not just a tourist stop—it’s the beating heart of Hungary, and once you’ve been inside, you’re gonna feel like you’ve touched something bigger than yourself.

A very moving tribute to just some of the innocent and what happened to them. Feels bad taking a picture. At the moment a lot of feelings about tensions elsewhere are publicised there as well. Along the river just up from Parliament

Best place to see the Danube is on a boat, on the river, so much to see and even better if youre able to travel up to Bratislava and Vienna as we did. Beautiful sights and the parliament building lit up at night is perfect to see from the river.

Home to the Monarchs of Hungary, Buda Castle isn’t a castle at all but a palace. Grandly situated atop Buda Hill, the Palace embodies over 1000 years of history from the arrival of the Magyar peoples to the first King - Steven- whom became. Saint, to fleeing upon the arrival of Ghengis Khan’s Army, the site has it all

Really cool market, similar to ones you can find all over the world. Ground floor has local and fresh food/snacks while second floor has actual meals and souvenirs. I liked that the shop keepers do not hassle passersby. There were so many local goods to buy (I'm sure several were mass produced, but some seemed authentic). There is also a fish market in the basement and a toilet (not free of charge).

A lovely spot to relax and get contemplative in Budapest. Excellent for a sunny day and perfect for flower lovers. There is a small Japanese garden, but my favorite parts are the wide lawns in the rose garden. Central and accessible, this is a must-do expedition before departing Hungary. Wear walking shoes!

Interesting history of the hospital turned into a nuclear bunker during the cold war. Signage to get there from St Matthias church was poor and we walked much further than we needed to. All being 60/70+ this matters!

The Hungarian State Opera House is a dazzling spectacle that grabs you by the collar the moment you step through those grand doors. You walk in, and it’s like entering a different world—a realm of opulence that smacks you right in the face. The interior is dripping with gold accents, ornate sculptures, and frescoes that seem to whisper tales of passion and artistry. You can feel the history reverberating through the walls, and for a second, you’re almost ready to burst into song yourself.

Once you settle into your seat, you realize this place isn’t just about the visuals; it’s about the experience. The performances are top-notch, with talent that ranges from the breathtaking to the soul-stirring. The acoustics? Pure magic. Every note, every whisper floats through the air like it’s dancing just for you. But here’s the catch—if you’re not careful, you can find yourself in a performance that doesn’t quite hit the mark. It’s a bit of a gamble, but when it pays off, it’s nothing short of electric.

Now, let’s talk about the vibe. The audience is a mix of high society and everyday folks, all here for the same reason: to escape into a world of drama and elegance. But don’t be surprised if you get caught up in a sea of tourists snapping photos. While that can take away from the intimate atmosphere, it’s a small price to pay for the experience. The Hungarian State Opera House is a must-visit—an explosion of culture and artistry that leaves you feeling like you’ve just stepped out of a cinematic masterpiece, even if a few moments fall flat.

We wanted to experience the much talked about thermal baths. The place very big and luckily not too crowded. Unfortunately we could not spend more than a hour as we had a hard time getting there in the rain. They would not give us a rain check or credit for another day.
The baths itself was a good experience.

Széchenyi Lánchíd, or as the locals call it, the Chain Bridge, is Budapest’s showstopper, connecting Buda and Pest like a bold statement that demands respect. You walk onto that span, and it feels like stepping into a legend. The iron chains glisten against the Danube, a testament to engineering that’s stood the test of time. You can almost hear the whispers of history echoing through the air, reminding you that this bridge has seen it all—the triumphs, the tragedies, the everyday hustle of a city that doesn’t quit.

As you stroll across, the views hit you like a freight train. To one side, you’ve got the majestic Buda Castle looming large, and to the other, the stunning Hungarian Parliament Building flexing its architectural muscles. It’s a postcard waiting to happen, every angle more picturesque than the last. You catch the sunlight dancing off the water, and for a moment, it feels like the whole city is winking at you, saying, “Welcome to Budapest.”

But here’s the thing: while the bridge is impressive, it can get a bit crowded, especially during peak tourist hours. You’ve got to navigate through the throngs of people, and that can take away from the experience. Still, the Széchenyi Lánchíd stands proud, a symbol of connection and history that can’t be ignored. You leave feeling like you’ve walked through a slice of Budapest’s soul, and despite the crowds, that’s something you’ll carry with you long after you step off.

Everything in Budapest is pretty and this is no different. Plenty of photo opportunities and things to look at. Easy to get to and even in the rain, a magnificent sight
